Strikeforce heavyweight Fabricio Werdum will not appear on Strikeforce “Carano vs. Cyborg,” Director of Communications Mike Afromowitz told MMAWeekly.com on Monday.
The former Pride and UFC veteran was originally scheduled to take on Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem in one of four title bouts scheduled for the Aug. 15 event, but Overeem was forced to withdraw from the fight due to a re-aggravated hand injury.
Werdum was moved to the undercard as Carano vs. Cyborg endured several other changes to its roster. Until Monday, his opponent was TBA.
Werdum is one of three top-tier heavyweights in line to face coveted heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, though a timetable for his return is unknown at this time. He has not fought since last October, when rising prospect Junior Dos Santos knocked him out at UFC 90.
