With less than a week to go until the event, UFC officials have opted to scrap Magalhaes from the card entirely and go with 10 bouts for the night.
Maldonado’s injury was just unfortunate timing that it was so close to the fight time, UFC matchmaker Joe Silva didn’t have much leeway to secure a replacement.
Magalhaes will now wait for a future UFC card to make his debut, while Maldonado will heal up and come back at a later date as well. No word if the pairing between the two fighters could be rescheduled.
The UFC 142 card now stands at 10 bouts split between pay-per-view and FX, both airing on Saturday night from Rio.
