A tremendous battle between WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner and challenger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone ended in less than spectacular fashion due to an unintentional illegal knee to a downed Varner. None the less, most saw it as an entertaining fight that ended with enough controversy to set up a rematch down the road, including both fighters, who called for a rematch after the final tallies were read.

In the co-main event at WEC 38, former featherweight champion Urijah Faber started his road back to the title with a first round destruction of former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver.
