2010 was a great year for Anthony Pettis.
It started out with a highlight reel head kick knockout of Danny Castillo, and ended with the first-ever appearance of the “Showtime Kick” that rattled Ben Henderson’s brain before ending up as one of the most replayed moments in MMA history.
Pettis can now add an ESPN SportsCenter award to his list of accolades in 2010.
The benchmark show on ESPN named their Top Plays for all of 2010 on Friday and Pettis’ kick came in at No. 8 for the year. The move was replayed on ESPN several times during the week following his fight against Ben Henderson, and now it can be called one of the top plays for the entire year.
Pettis, now a UFC fighter, took home the last ever WEC lightweight title that night as well and will be planted front and center for Saturday night’s UFC 125 main event between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard. He will face the winner later in 2011.
