Eddie Yagin Lashes Out at Joe Rogan’s UFC 145 Commentary

May 1, 2012
Comments off

At UFC 145, Eddie Yagin pulled off what was considered one of the biggest upsets thus far in 2012, as he knocked off former featherweight title contender Mark Hominick.

Twice during the fight, Yagin dropped Hominick with his heavy hands and survived a comeback by the Canadian during the third round to pull off the split decision win.

The win marked the first for Yagin inside the Octagon, and he soon after found out he got a “Fight of the Night” bonus to boot for his efforts.

Life seemed pretty good for Yagin until he got home and re-watched his fight.

Like any fighter, Yagin was critical of his performance, looking at the positives and negatives, and finding ways to improve before his next trip to the Octagon. What bothered Yagin, however, was the commentary during the fight by color commentator Joe Rogan.

Yagin was none too pleased with what he heard and he erupted on the comedian/color commentator when speaking to MMAWeekly Radio after the fight.

“Maybe you should talk to Joe Rogan because that (expletive) hates on me so bad. I need to talk to that boy,” Yagin stated.

“Someone should have checked his teeth because I think he got (expletive) in his mouth from sucking his (expletive) so much. Every time I would throw a good punch, or land a good kick, he would capitalize on Hominick. He’d say ‘oh, good shot from Yagin, but Hominick took it and look how well Hominick is moving!’ It’s like are you kidding me right now? Shut the (expletive) up and instead of saying what you want to happen, say what is happening.”

Obviously a color commentator’s job is different than a play-by-play man when it comes to commentary during any sporting event. A color commentator is there to add definition, explanation, and like the title says, add color to whatever sport they are talking about.

Yagin, however, took Rogan to task for what he believes was biased commentary towards his opponent, Mark Hominick, despite losing much of the fight, including being knocked down on two occasions.

“I was a fan of Joe Rogan, but now it’s like come on. Just state the obvious, and stop being an ass kisser,” said Yagin. “I understand you can be a fan of other people, but if you’re going to be a commentator, just do your job and not take anybody’s side and just state what’s there, read the book. Read the lines, don’t make up your own words. This ain’t acting class; this ain’t a movie.”

Following Yagin’s interview on the radio show, the fighter and commentator were able to exchange some messages via Twitter to hash things out a bit. Rogan explained to Yagin his point about the commentary, and also complemented his tremendous performance at UFC 145.

“I meant no disrespect,” wrote Rogan. “I’m just analyzing with a critical view. That said, you’re a (expletive) beast and I loved that fight.

“I was especially impressed with you in the third round. You showed mad heart and gutted out some tough spots. Loved those power leg kicks and you’ve got bricks in your hands. I’m just critical, especially of myself.”

Judging by Yagin’s response, the beef was put to rest.

“Thank you,” wrote Yagin. “I’ll take that as a compliment! I appreciate it!”

Any problem with the commentary aside, Yagin was mostly happy to go out and erase the thoughts of his first UFC fight, which he lost by decision and show fans what he’s really like in a fight. He is pretty confident, however, that not too many fighters are going to sign-up to stand and trade with him in the future.

“What everybody was able to see is what I’m capable of,” said Yagin. “Honestly, I think all the 45’ers that were watching this fight don’t want none of my stand-up and I think everybody’s going to try to take me down now.”

    Someones butthurt.

    • RubeKegal

yeah you are for using that term phaggot

  • DubstepDIST

It’s about time someone calls out Rogan on his bullshit commentary

    • RubeKegal

agreed, Rogan is a cancer, bring on Kenflo with Goldberg. I enjoy his commentary so much more.

      • Lesnardo

??? Are you serious? Rogan could be biased but I am okay with him overall.

He is close with some of the UFC fighters and naturally wants to given them good commentary. Also, he gets pressures from UFC. He needs to beef up up-and-coming guys like Hominick.

But Rogan has came out and said good stuff here and there.

If you think Rogan sucks, Kenflo sucks even more.

Also, Goldberg is not a commentator so you are going to hear less opinions from him.

        • KBEsq

Yeah, I agree. Even if you can argue that Rogan was biased in this fight (and I sure didn’t notice it), he’s a great commentator because he really cares, and he explains things very well. Rogan was probably talking about Hominick more because Hominick presents more skills to talk about.

Goldberg is like a programed robot. “Coming up Next!” “He’s puttin’ on a clinic, Joe!”

I generally like Anik and Florian. I think the worst part is that the two commentators who have the most knowledge (Florian and Rogan), have really annoying voices when their voices gets loud.

        • lonniebatt

and another thing there isnt anyone that I have yet to hear explain BJJ whilke fighters are rolling in the mat the way Rogan does he sees moves instantly then Identifies them and with out any thought seems to always predict every counter than happens.. he is the best at this..better than Florian, Ruten, and millitich the guy knows BJJ,, he really is a good comintatoor but he can get alittle carried away at times…

          • lonniebatt

boy please excuse the spelling I failed to get my glasses before I started typing

    • kevstinx

The commentary has gone to shit!

You got fake Goldberg, constantly promoting, Bud Lite, Harley Davidson, Burger King and other useless information.

One of the most annoying things you guys do, is during a fight, most a corner ad promoting another fight and have a commentator promote that event which we are trying to watch THIS ****ing event!

I love how Goldberg + Joe get bored and switch off and start talking about past shit, really nesting there eggs in that fighters basket.

Personally, I think you should have 1 commentator per corner. You hear some really personal views expressed i the commentating, those biased views effect what is said.

      I think you should have:
Randy, Chuck, Bonner + possible Florian

Not sure what exactly has gone wrong in recent years, but the commentary is a joke! Literally!

The amount of times you hear Joe praising his favourite fighter even whilst they are losing, this influences are decision, well it must be right if a commentator is saying it…. WRONG!!

And Mike, stop holding the mic. like a penis whilst you glare into Joe’s eyes and that fake smile ain’t fooling no one.

      • RubeKegal

Can’t have Chuck, have you heard him talk recently?

        • Lesnardo

Also Florian and Bonnar are Dana nuthuggers. They would say things only UFC fanboys would agree with.

  • http://www.bloodyfists.net/forums/index.php SHORT_BUS

If he couldn’t handle Joe’s commentary he sure as hell better stay out of the forums.

Yagin needs a PR class or two. He also needs to come to terms with the fact that his every move (in and out of the cage) will be put under a microscope while competing at this level.

    • RubeKegal

and Rogan needs a commentating class or two. He is the worst culprit of one-sided commentating Ive ever seen.

      • Lesnardo

Come on. He is still better than KenFlo or other Dana nuthuggers.

        • maddawgmar

P.S. KenFlo is a gay nickname, almost as gay as JLau.

          • RubeKegal

            now that’s for damn sure..

My personal favorite is Ivan “The Fruit Bat” Salaverry or Chris Leben’s 1st nickname “The Cat Smasher”

    • KBEsq

Totally – I actually heard him on the interview with MMA weekly. His language is like a 12 year old. I can’t stand it when fighters talk like that – this is the only sport where you can here one of the practitioners insinuate that the commentator was sucking a d^&* while commentating.

Honestly, what if you heard Tom Brady say something like this? It wouldn’t happen. I think the UFC should really talk to these guys about interviews and start putting contractual provisions that deter language and conduct like this. MMA is in the big leagues now, and the fighters need to act like it.

      • KBEsq

        *hear*

MMA Weekly – Please allow us to Edit – PLEASE!

  • rsnowbass

His first fight in the UFC (I think, not sure) and who the hell does he think he is? Rogan is a crutial piece of the formula which has built the UFC and made it so successful.

I’d much rather Joe there than the the dipschitt from FOX.

I was impressed with Yagin but now can’t wait until he gets his ass kicked.

Try building a reputation for yourself before opening your mouth about someone better for the UFC than yourself (thus far)

    • RubeKegal

rsnow, you and Rogan should get a hotel room. Regardless of the fact he has been there so long, he sucks and favors fighters and it’s painfully obvious. I first saw it when Lyoto fought Shogun the first time. There was a point in the 3rd round when Lyoto threw a 14 punch/kick combo and had Shogun backpedaling and Shogun threw one punch in that same time period and Rogan exploded for Shogun.

      He should be fired period

      • rsnowbass

I’d take your response serious as if there were some validity if you weren’t calling people phaggots and telling others to get hotel rooms. Sit back, have a beer…relax and don’t take to so personally. Not everyone is going to have the same opinion as you or agree with you. Respectfully.

I’ll defend Rogan because he’s still a comedian up there, he knows the sport, says random schitt, and personally…I’m always excited to assume how much he’s already been drinking before commentary. When he’s “On Assignment” and missing from commentary, I’m assuming he needed to be replaced that night because he got too bombed. It’s amusing to me…what can I say?

        Cheers!

        • kevstinx

Comedian, that could be part of the prob.

It is not exactly a comical sport, although it happens, eg: Randy spanking Tito

          • maddawgmar

He is not a comedian, have you heard his stand up? I’ve heard funnier sh*t come out of a funeral home. He needs to be on the unemployment lune

          • maddawgmar

            *Line*

        • RubeKegal

He’s terrible hands down. Promotes his fav fighters who are his pothead buddies and def has an agenda towards who he likes better. His mistakes are egregious and shouldn’t be tolerated but since the UFC is about as strict as a degenerate Camp Counselor.

      • http://www.bloodyfists.net/forums/index.php SHORT_BUS

You’re trying too hard with the “negative schtick”, gonna give yourself ass cancer.

        • RubeKegal

not at all just posting factual information…

You can’t even defend Joe on these…it’s clear cut wrong what he’s done and it happens repeatedly, not like it was a one time offense.

          • http://www.bloodyfists.net/forums/index.php SHORT_BUS

            If you say so.

          • RubeKegal

            I do say so!

      • rsnowbass

For the record, I’ll have you know that the Motel 6 Joe and I share is Classy. And full of Romance!

        • RubeKegal

          haha

  • pooby

Good thing he wasn’t fighting Miguel Torres while Frank Mir commented.

  • The_SaavedraFiles

i don’t know why yagin is complaining it will never ever and i mean ever be more biased commentary than shogun and lyoto’s first fight. none the less i still don’t have a problem with Rogans commentary. he’s good at what he does.

    • thumbyummy

I was thinking the same thing about the Shogun vs Machida and the biased commentary. Overall I like Rogan though.

  • maddawgmar

I agree to a point. Yagin is being a bit of a vagina about something that isn’t that bad. But Rogan does disrespect fighters sometimes with his commentary and interviews. Danny Catillo took a fight on just over a months notice, five weeks after he just fought, and even being gassed pulled off a victory against a tough Njokuani. Then Rogan disses Castillo by calling his victory controversial even though he clearly won. Then asking if he was disappointed in his performance. Rogan is a douche sometimes and need to check himself.

  • adam1848

Rogan’s job is a lot harder than any of us realize, and he does an amazing job; much better than anyone else I have heard. But he does play favorites at times. But also, Yagin didn’t even look that great, in my opinion. If he thinks he struck fear into the division with that performance, he needs to think again. Granted it was a scrappy fight, but he has holes in his game so big you could get lost. Use Joe’s commentary as motivation for improving your game, not crying about it on a radio show…the media is most guy’s worst enemy.

    • matty

I couldn’t of said it better myself! Joe is the best commentator of all time.(mma)

    • RubeKegal

Adam, wrong and Matty you need your head examined.

This is the same ass who called out Mario Yamasaki for making the CORRECT call by DQ’ing Erick Silva.

He on many occasions has done this and it should not be tolerated.

      • http://www.facebook.com/daniel.r.walker.3 danielwalker

should not be tolerated? Dana White spends most of his time trolling fools like you on twitter, who the hell made you the tolerance police?

        • RubeKegal

^^^To Daniel Walker aka Dickstain Lane, are you a troll as well? We are both on this forum you know. When you express dislike about a fighter, does that make you a troll as well?

I’ll be whatever I need to be….if more people read this and educate themselves instead of blindly listening to Rogan’s sediments with their jaw dropped like a dumb f’in hick, maybe we can get Rogan out and KenFlo in.

          • maddawgmar

HEY, I’m a dumb F’in hick, and I hate Rogan. I resent that hick thing.

          • frumps

            Rube-

Simply re-examine your posts on this thread to see if they compare with the basic criteria of a troll poster (always negative, arguing with people that aren’t arguing in the first place, berating people, thinking their personal beliefs are reality fact, general dyckhead demeanor, etc).

Unless you’re a complete r’tard <>, you’ll see from your posts that YOU do a top quality job being the troll here.

Sorry, I might be guilty of trolling myself, but at least I’m operating as an anti-troller.

          • RubeKegal

frumps, stop trolling you negative bashturd. I only speak negatively about Rogan and I am passionate about having him replaced which is why I will rebut everyone’s statements that are pro Rogan

  • RubeKegal

    Rogan should be fired.

Goldberg and Kenny Florian should be the tandem.

    • http://www.facebook.com/daniel.r.walker.3 danielwalker

So what you are saying is you want to remove any if not all personality the UFC has on television right now? Stephen Bonner is psycho and laughs at his own jokes way too much, chael is a fake who makes silly remarks for WWE fans to cream to, don’t even get me started on the 2 bald michael schiavello wannabe’s they are plaguing us with. I suppose you like the fox music as well?

      • RubeKegal

I’m talking about the people that host the PPV’s moron, and for the record I thought the show on Fox was the worst thing I have ever seen.

  • KingSlaughter

ive always liked frank shamrock…i think he is an excellent commentator

  • http://www.facebook.com/daniel.r.walker.3 danielwalker

Mr RubeKegal, we have heard what you think a few times on this thread. it’s obvious you are a 100% A-grade beef hater, therefor anything you print isn’t worth the 1’s and 0’s it’s based on. Goldberg seems like a nice guy, i like his commentary style, but he just repeats himself. He either parrots Rogan, or he says 1 of the 7 bullet points he has on his piece of paper that’s overshadowed by whatever product placement he’s onto that week. Florian is also really good, but despite his accurate commentary he is BORING as hell to listen to when paired with goldberg, he’s a fighter not a colour commentator.

Rogan and florian? now that i would watch, but not with silly old goldberg glitching like a black cat in the matrix every 5 minutes.

    • RubeKegal

Daniel, I think your mommy is calling you for breakfast, time to leave the basement son!

The only person I hate on is Rogan…go find me hating on other people here, you won’t find it….the only person i call for to be fired is Rogan, because he is trash.

He’s also the crackhead who thought Chael needed to finish Bisping in the last round to win and thought Rampage beat Machida…..

Weed assists in the development of schizophrenia and I think Joey Rogaine needs a doc….and Daniel Walker needs a coc or 8

  • kevstinx

Goldberg old news. Like Bruce Buffer, they hold history. You cling onto Goldberg like a bad smell.

So did the old intro song for TUF. What has happened with the new shit music + format?

Change is not always good as you can see.

    Hurry up TUF Brasil.

  • Maine2Alaska

I never really liked Joe Rogans commentary. EVER. Because he always says people are rocked or hurt when they arent. Its so annoying. As for this bitch complaining? how about you have 1 or 2 more fights in the octagon first before u start running your mouth.

    • RubeKegal

      VERY TRUE!!!

    • bonkerstheclownmcpickle

What they seriously need is somebody to cover the striking portion of fights because Joe absolutely sucks at it. It’s not his gift obviously.

Now when a fight hits the ground, there is nobody better than Joe. He knows the ground game and does a fantastic job telling you exactly what’s going on. Before UFC 40 (when Joe came onboard permanently), the ground game had no decent commentary and it seriously sucked. If you doubt me, dig through your collection and watch anything before Joe Rogan.

  • bajafox

I never understood why Dana likes Rogan so much. He sucks. Glad a fighter finally called him out

    • Arseface

Dana likes Rogan so much because the fans like Rogan so much.

  • BlackDog2009

Yagin shouldn’t brag too much of his stand up. Hominick looked bad mostly but one thing is for certain, he landed his jab on Yagin all night long and Yagin’s face at the end of the fight confirms it. In fact, Hominick landed and landed almost everytime. Yagin to his credit had the chin, nose and forehead to withstand it all.

  • Towers66

Rogan does his job well. I just take alot of his commentary as personal opinion. Which alot of it is. Who cares?

  • justinkofron

rogan should be yagin’s next opponent. Joe always says he is a fighter.

    http://www.domgear.com/

  • julianmoran

Joe Rogan is the best mma commentator out there.

  • Malice_Unarmed

Joe Rogan is white not colored…

  • Malice_Unarmed

    *Edit*
Rogan is an awesome commentator, I would love to see him paired with either Bas Rutten or Michael Schiavello, would be some awesome commentary there.

  • MuayThaiFood

Anyone who would describe the cut Vitor Belfort put on Marvin Eastman’s head as a goat vagina is the G.O.A.T in my opinion……end of discussion.

    • RubeKegal

      wait Rogan did that?

      • MuayThaiFood

        Yes he did….live!

        • RubeKegal

wow LOL and the list continues to grow!!

  • bonkerstheclownmcpickle

Rogan is a great commentator, but he does tend to blather on hyping different fighters, etc. During Machida vs Shogun I, he was so shocked and amazed that somebody was actually landing a lot of strikes on Machida that he completely failed to notice every strike Machida landed on Shogun. Machida probably lost that fight, but it was a lot closer than Joe Rogan’s commentary would lead one to believe. Joe allows himself to get sucked into fighter hype. The hype on Rampage Jackson is that he hits hard than any human being ever spawned, and the way Joe talks, one punch from Rampage will put any human being to sleep. That just isn’t true. Ramapge has hit guys, but he’s 6 fights and 4 years without a KO. Joe likes to exaggerate. It sells fights, but it’s still BS.
