One of ONE Championship’s most popular fighters will be back in action at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on May 22 when Hong Kong’s Eddie Ng makes his comeback against Brazilian lightweight Rafael Nunes.
Ng (7-2) was carrying a serious arm injury when he fought Vincent Latoel last May. It prevented him from being able to clasp his hands together to complete takedowns, and after being stopped by the Dutchman, he has been away from the cage for almost a year.
At ONE: Warrior’s Quest, he returns to action and Ng, who trains out of Evolve MMA in Singapore, is guaranteed to have the crowd firmly behind him when he takes on a Brazilian who is also looking to bounce back from a recent defeat.
Nunes (10-1) was beaten by Koji Ando when he made his promotional debut last year. While the Japanese lightweight will be challenging Shinya Aoki for his title in the main event, the man he submitted in Taiwan will be looking to get back to winning ways in what will be his second ONE Championship fight.
Ng by contrast has been on the scene since the promotion’s inception and holds wins over Chunbo Yuan, Jian Kai Chee, Arnaud Lepont and Peter Davis inside the ONE Championship cage, which had helped establish him as one of the top fighters in the division prior to the loss to Latoel.
In addition to the lightweight title fight that headlines the card, ONE: Warrior’s Quest also has two matches confirmed with Kuat Khamitov meeting Lowen Tynanes in the 155-pound division and Timofey Nastyukhin facing Rob Lisita at 145 pounds.
