Michael Chandler vs Eddie AlvarezThe trilogy between Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and former titleholder Michael Chandler will take place on May 17. Bellator MMA CEO Bjorn Rebney made the announcement during Friday’s Bellator 110 broadcast on Spike TV.

“Alvarez and Chandler 1 was the greatest fight I have ever seen cage side. Then last November 2nd they did it again and the second fight was better than the first,” said Rebney. “Sometimes when you put two of the greatest fighters on Earth in the cage together they just give you artistic majesty. And on May 17, live on pay-per-view, Saturday, May 17, you’re going to see these two guys in the trilogy fight once and for all, Alvarez vs. Chandler for the world title.”

Chandler (12-1) defeated Alvarez (25-3) at Bellator 58 in November 2011 to capture the lightweight crown. Alvarez avenged the loss and won back the belt on Nov. 2, 2013 by split decision.

“The last fight left a bitter taste in my mouth. I’m excited to do it again. It’s a fight the fans want to see. It’s a chance for redemption for myself,” said Chandler. “Obviously every time Eddie and myself step into the cage it’s going to be a war. I commend him for that, and I’m looking forward to it.”

“I think me and my team created a blueprint, a way to figure out Mike Chandler. I think we’re going to leave it up to his guys to make adjustments this time,” said Alvarez. “Adjustments and technique is out the window. It’s about all wills. If you guys want to see a real fight tune in.”

Rebney did not disclose the venue or location for the match-up.

Will their second PPV be Alvarz vs Chandler 4?

    • TheCerealKiller

Probably Alvarez vs Chandler 5 or 6.

    • TRT-rex

This is Alvarez last fight on his contract and win or lose he become unrestricted free agent. That’s how Bellator got Alvarez to settle. He will be in the UFC soon enough!

        Hopefully!

Why does Chandler get an immediate rematch when Alvarez a well known and respected veteran had to go through a contract dispute and two fights to get his shot at redemption?

chandler finish eddie first time around and had a close fight second time. not saying it makes sense right now, but screw it, it’s the only interesting lw fight they have.

You speak the truth sir. Very few interesting fights rights now. What are your thoughts on a fight between Gilbert Melendez and Eddie Alverez or Gray Maynard vs E.A? I personally would love both of those fights.

definitely like eddie vs gilbert seeing as it was always the big question of who was the best outside the ufc.

as for gray, he’s way out of the picture. i think he has one last fight and calls it a career.

‘Free’ is the right price point for Bellator cards – they simply don’t have the depth of big name fighters for PPV. .

Something wierd about Bellator MMA, I just cant enjoy thier fights. I watch UFC RFA, Titan Fights, invicta, 1 fc, even WSOF but I cant seem to enjoy Bellator. The fighters never seem like they have a killer instinct or maybe its just poor matchmaking. Hopefully Eddie Alvarez can move on to a different organization after this fight. Even WSOF would be a step up in competition.
