Dream on Thursday all but finalized its Sept. 23 fight card,
announcing three additional bouts to Dream 6.
Among the bouts announced on Thursday were Hayato “Mach”
Sakurai versus Kuniyoshi Hironaka, Ikuhisa Minowa versus Masakatsu Funaki, and
Keita “K-taro” Nakamura versus Adriano Martins.
Original plans had called for a welterweight championship bout
between Sakurai and EliteXC fighter Nick Diaz. There has been a contentious relationship
between Diaz’ camp and Dream, with Diaz’ trainer, Caesar Gracie, asserting that
his fighter has yet to be paid for his win over Katsuya Inoue at Dream 3 in
One last addition to Dream 6 remains incomplete. According
to Sports Navi, Yoshihiro Akiyama – ranked the href="http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/topten.asp?articleid=14&zoneid=15">No.
9 middleweight in the world by MMAWeekly.com – is slated to be on the
card. He has apparently been given his choice of three opponents, but his camp
has yet to respond to Dream officials.
Dream 6 also features the semi-final and final rounds of the
Dream Middleweight Grand Prix. The semi-final bouts feature Melvin Manhoef
versus Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza versus Zelg Galesic, with the winners
meeting in the final on the same night.
