Having been forced off of Saturday UFC Fight Night 69 due to injury, Derek Brunson already has his return to the Octagon scheduled. He will meet fellow middleweight Sam Alvey at UFC Fight Night 73 on Aug. 8 in Nashville, Tenn.
UFC officials announced the new bout on Wednesday.
Brunson (13-3) had been slated to face Krzysztof Jotko in Berlin on Saturday, but had to withdraw a little over a week ago due to a rib injury suffered in training. He was briefly replaced by Uriah Hall, but the fight was eventually scrubbed when Hall ran into issues with his visa.

Having his early UFC momentum slowed by a loss to Yoel Romero, Brunson heads into this fight having won back-to-back bouts against Lorenz Larkin and Ed Herman.
A former MFC middleweight champion, Alvey (26-6, 1 NC) lost his Octagon debut, but has since strung together three consecutive victories. Brunson, however, will be his biggest test to date in Alvey’s quest for a title shot.
UFC Fight Night 73 is headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between Glover Teixeira and Ovince St. Preux.
