After a successful debut at UFC 109 just over a week ago, Phil Davis will ready himself for a bout in Abu Dhabi this time as the former NCAA champion has been tagged to face Swedish heavy hitter, Alexander Gustafsson, in a light heavyweight bout on the card.
The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight, bout agreements are set to be issued shortly.
Phil Davis (5-0) made a quick impression on UFC fans with his debut fight against former WEC champion, Brian Stann. Using his tremendous wrestling background, Davis took Stann down at will, but also punished the former Marine with knees to the body and an unrelenting ground attack.
The win kept Davis’ record perfect, and he made a name for himself instantly as a gifted athlete with a very bright future ahead of him.
Stepping in to face Davis will be Swedish product, Alexander Gustafsson (9-0), who made his first appearance in the UFC Octagon last November with a quick knockout win over Jared Hamman.
An unblemished record with only one fight going to decision, pretty much guarantees that Gustafsson is willing to bring the fight in this match-up, and facing an athlete the caliber of Davis, he will definitely have to.
As of now, the bout between Davis and Gustafsson is slated for the untelevised undercard of the show set to take place in Abu Dhabi in April.
