MMAWeekly has learned that middleweight standouts David Terrell and Yushin Okami will be facing each other in the Octagon at UFC 62 on August 26th.
David Terrell’s last fight was at UFC 59 in April, where he defeated Scott Smith by submission in the first round. Smith, with a UFC record of 0-1, then became a contestant on the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter. Terrell’s previous fight in the UFC was over a year prior to his April 2006 fight, as he lost to Evan Tanner by TKO in February 2005.
Yushin Okami will be making his UFC debut after establishing himself with a 16-3 MMA record in Japan and Hawaii. In the 170-pound tournament that the Rumble on the Rock promotion held in Hawaii earlier this year, Okami was eliminated when he lost to eventual tournament champion Jake Shields by unanimous decision, but many ringside observers felt that Okami deserved to get the judges’ decision.
Since the Shields fight, Okami has moved up to middleweight and has gone 2-0 in Japan’s Greatest Common Multiple (GCM) promotion, with victories over Ji Won Pang in May and Izuru Takeuchi in June.
