12-Dave-Herman-UFC-131-w-0249-478x270UFC heavyweight Dave Herman has had drug test related issues during his fighting career, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The NSAC at a commission meeting on Friday said it would issue Herman a one-fight license to compete at next week’s UFC 162 in Las Vegas, but the license is contingent upon him passing an immediate drug test.

He is slated to fight Gabriel Gonzaga as part of the UFC 162 preliminary bouts scheduled to air on the FX network.

Herman had a UFC 136 bout with Mike Russow cancelled when he failed a preliminary drug test. He then failed a post-fight drug test following his loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 153. He tested positive for marijuana both times.

Herman was suspended for six months and required to undergo a drug treatment program following his failed test at UFC 153.

If he passes the test and fights at UFC 162, Herman is still not in the clear. He is in a must-win situation, entering the fight with Gonzaga on a three-bout losing streak. With UFC roster space a hot commodity, Herman can’t afford another loss.

When will people learn, regardless of your opinions on whether marijuana should be legal or not, it IS still illegal. And you’re going to continue to pay the price for it. Is smoking a little weed really worth all the drama?

    • anonmoose

Drama becomes non-existant once weed comes into play. He probably just lit up another one after he recieved the “bad news”

  • Real

lol, as soon as Herman found out about this, he had to put down his blunt (and hope it leaves his system in time)

  • julian moran

    Gonzaga should win this one.

  • Milos Rackovic

Gonzaga shud win unless he gets elbowed into back of his head again

  • Nothing personal against him but how does this guy still have a job? He only has 1 win and has failed a drug test twice.

    • solo

Yea, and Riddle lost his job on this and he was on 4 fight winning streak.

      • Very true. I don’t understand that at all. Maybe they just need a guy in the HW division to throw in? lol … I’m going with Gonzaga on this one, how about you? I also still want to see Gonzaga and Mir go at it.

He’s entertaining and Riddle is painfully boring. Wouldn’t you rather see Herman get knocked-out rather than Riddle lay on a guy for 15 minutes?

You might be high yourself…Riddle has been in more barn burners than most of the UFC roster. It’s what he’s known for…did you just start watching mma?

          • Flock__of__Burgers

            I must have.

          • Riddle has only been beaten 3 times in his career which started in the UFC so he’s a bigger name IMO. I’am angry that he came up positive twice though. I think Riddle has some talent. I don’t enjoy seeing Herman get knocked-out, I wish nothing bad on him but I don’t understand why he’s still on the roster with his record.

          • Flock__of__Burgers

Wasn’t wishing anything bad on him either but I think it has to do with being “exciting” vs. “boring” – despite records. Look at Fitch’s cut despite his record.

We cant understand a lot of things lately.
Its like Dana said: “theres a lot of s*** going on everyday in this business that we have to deal with”. Maybe in every story theres some stuff that we dont know…
Man, i like Gonzaga in this fight too, but i woudnt bet against the guy who has his job on the line, even though its Dave who has been just terrible in his last fights. I wanna see a war he had against Olav Einemo. Mir vs Gonzaga? Who knows, maybe in the future you get your wish. Im excited for Mir vs Barnett though.

It’s a performance enhancing drug, too. Training isn’t all that exciting most the time, but if you’re baked, you can train all day and be entertained. Also, with the two main ‘types’ of marijuana, one gives you a lot of energy and motivation, the more common of course makes you lazy and content to do nothing. But it’s very difficult, and all but impossible in a drug test, to tell the difference.

He wants to be a professional, he needs to learn that sports are a 24/7 type of job.

LOL! You’re hilarious. I like you, son.

If you sign a contract that requires you to be drug free, there’s no grey area…you either want the job or you don’t.
