Danny-Castillo-UFC139-workout-1The UFC matchmaking team is working overtime this week, particularly focusing on the UFC on Fox 9 fight card slated for Dec. 14 in Sacramento, Calif.

The latest addition is a lightweight bout pitting Danny Castillo against Edson Barboza.

UFC officials announced the bout on Wednesday.

Castillo (16-5) has the home field advantage, training alongside teammates Urijah Faber and Chad Mendes at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento.

He’ll hope to parlay that advantage into another victory, adding to his recent back-to-back successes. Castillo enters the fight having scored unanimous decision victories over Tim Means and Paul Sass in his last two outings.

Barboza has also won his last two fights, submitting Lucas Martins and TKOing Rafaello Oliveira.

A lightweight championship bout between Anthony Pettis and Josh Thomson headlines the event at Sleep Train Arena.

Castillo is tough, and will probably try to take Barboza down. But Barboza is such an incredible athlete, and i dont see that happening. Barboza should be able to keep the distance on the feet and pick him apart. To bad for Danny, he’s going to sleep in front of his own crowd.

    Barboza by KO!

Will “PROBABLY” try to take Barboza down???? Of COURSE he will! Castillo fights just like Koscheck did earlier in his career. He’s a humper and I hope to God Edson KOs him quick.

castillo has a habit of getting clipped early, but has also shown that he can bounce back. we’ll see if edson can exploit those holes because i’m not sure he would win a decision.
