A quick submission of the night in his last fight has yielded Daniel “Ninja” Roberts a fast turn around as the Cesar Gracie and Scrap Pack team fighter will return on Jan 1 at UFC 125 to face Kurt Pellegrino student Greg Soto in a welterweight bout on the card.
The news was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Monday. Roberts originally announced the fight via his Twitter account.
With an 11-1 record, Daniel Roberts has been impressive throughout his career, but maybe never more than his lightning fast submission win over Mike Guymon in his last fight. Dropping the former King of the Cage champion early, Roberts locked on a fight ending anaconda choke to wrap up the win and pick up a nice submission of the night bonus to boot.
Looking to stop Roberts’ current two fight win streak will be New Jersey fighter Greg Soto (8-1) who looks to build on his first career UFC win in his last fight in August. Soto was disqualified in his first trip to the Octagon after an illegal kick, but bounced back strong taking out British fighter Nick Osipczak at UFC 118.
The welterweights will battle at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day in Las Vegas as a part of the undercard to the double title fight main events with lightweight champion Frankie Edgar defending his belt against Gray Maynard, and newly minted UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo putting his gold on the line against Josh Grispi.
