Daniel Cormier is friends with UFC 170 opponent Rashad Evans, which makes their Feb. 22 co-main event match-up all the more interesting. Cormier admitted recently that he’s tried to base his career off what Evans has done, but that’s not going to stop him from going in there and winning the fight.

    Some smart reviews from DC.
Its such an interesting match-up. So excited to see the fight! I like both guys, dont like that one of them have to lose. But…

This may be the first time Evans dont have an advantage in wrestling, but his speed can be the difference. Just mo.
And for DC, its probably the biggest challenge and a threat to his undefeated record. We still dont know will the weight cut have an effect on his performance.

Both guys are very motivated, and its a huge stake. There’s so much on the line for this one.

I don’t think the weight cut will be bad. He weighed in at 230 something in his last fight without a cut. He has been dieting and dropping some belly fat, so it may not be an issue. As for Rashads speed, that could be negated by Cormier’s superior wrestling, and that’s a huge advantage for DC. I think Rashad’s only chance is his quick hands, and catch DC with something, otherwise he gets smothered. IMO.

Yea, probably wont be that bad. He’s doing it the smart way.
I agree, Rashad should use his footwork and his explosive hands to keep the distance and land something big. In his previous fights he was able to mix it up alot with his wrestling and his punches. He wont be able to do that with DC imo. I got to say it would be interesting if we get to see Evans on his back. Was he ever being held on the ground?

        • Maddawgmar

I don’t recall Evans ever being held on his back, but that’s because he usually was the better wrestler in the cage. Totally different ball game now. DC is a far better wrestler, if this goes to grappling Evans has no chance. You are right footwork and speed at his only chances.

he has been on his back against jones and phil davis but never took much damage. think cormier will get him down a few times, but we will see how good his GnP is with rashad. i think his wrestling will be used better in the clinch against the cage. Evans is the most well rounded fighter he has fought in my opinion but i still think he will win this one, and im going with a tko

Love the match-up as well. However, I’m not so sure Rashad’s quick hands will be that much of an advantage. DC has quick hands too.

Yea man, i just said it could be you know. DC had the speed advantage in HW, but for sure he losses that at 205 now. Especially against Evans imo.

        • Zip

Yeah, very well could be. Can’t wait to see it 🙂

I see Rashad’s speed and boxing being the winning factor in this fight. Dropping down in weight and facing an opponent like this neutralizes DC’s biggest strengths to date imo, as he’s used to being shorter and faster than most HW’s. Really like the match up tho.

  • Surprise prediction

Wouldn’t surprise me to see dc knock rashad out he has power in his hands in dropping from heavy weight he will be on another level.. In he trains with Cain on a daily basis in not to mention all the other a.t.t alot wich are much faster

  • This is going to be a great match up. I know DC is an incredible wrestler but I don’t see Rashad being held up against the cage by anyone. Evans is not just fast and powerful, he is explosive and can mix it up very well. The LHW division is an entire different animal then HW. No offense to the guys DC fought but this division has more athletic fighters who are well rounded. It’s also going to be interesting to see how he handles the weight cut. He’s been putting in the work getting in shape and losing weight but even if he makes the weight I’m curious to see how he performs. Either way this is most likely set to be a great fight.
