Daniel Cormier: “I Don’t Think That Performance Warranted a Title Shot” (UFC on Fox 7 video)

Daniel Cormier StrikeforceDaniel Cormier dominated former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir in their UFC on Fox 7 bout in San Jose, Calif., on Saturday night, but he still didn’t fight the way he wanted to, saying he felt “nervous” and “tired.”

The nerves, especially, surprised Cormier, as he has competed at a high level for the majority of his athletic life.

But the Octagon is the Octagon and the spotlight burns just a little bit hotter than most.

Still, Cormier doesn’t believe his performance warranted talk of a title shot just yet.

Cormier is just one classy guy. There is no title shot against his friend and mentor Cain. But beating on Junior is next.

You mean HUGGING Junior to death is next? He’s about as exciting to watch as The Shaman Kevin Jordan was…

      • Milosc

If that man is capable of hugging Jr Dos Santos to death, more power to him. I’ll watch it

He has better hands than Junior and better wrestling to Cain !

I see a very strong compact fighter in Cormier with great blitzing ability and top notch wrestling.

Better hands than Junior? Are you kidding? Cormier, like Fedor and other compact HWs, relies on blitzing with strikes to close the gap.

better wrestling than Cain? Maybe. Better credentials.

But this is MMA, you have to understand that a huge part of the game is incorporating discrete skill sets into one another and creating a smooth transition between each move.

Good post. I see it the same way for the most part. If he could polish what he can do once he blitz’s to the clinch, he could be fun to watch.

I think a Cormier vs Roy Nelson fight could fit well and make Cormier’s style come out more. Nelson has the chin to box with him, and I think it would be cool to see the premium Jit’s vs premium Wrestling.

            “better wrestling than Cain?”
            Far better !

I didn’t know Cormier was also a masseuse. LOL

Better hands than Junior Dos Santos? BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!

Seriously though, Cormier has the athleticism to be a well rounded fighter, especially his wrestling. Right now, in my opinion from the fights I have see, he fights like a larger version of John Fitch, and every bit as unexciting.

” from the fights I have see, he fights like a larger version of John Fitch, and every bit as unexciting.”
Guess you havn’t seen much then !
YES better hands than Junior !
Juniors hands aren’t that Great, That will be clear when he faces Hunt.

Why would he wanna fight a guy coming off two straight losses ?

      • falloniousWolf

who is coming off two straight losses?

Not sure if Cormier could beat Junior.

        • Cptmats

Dos Santos is coming of two straight losses…….after Hunt is done with him.
