Dana White Willing to Match Nick Diaz and Matt Brown

Matt-Brown-Nick-DiazIf Nick Diaz is willing, Dana White has a fight on the table: Matt Brown.

The UFC President went on UFC Tonight on Wednesday and discussed who might be Brown’s next opponent. White shot down a potential match-up with Nate Diaz, but added that he would fully endorse a bout between Nick and Brown.

“If Nick Diaz wants to come out and fight Brown, I’ll do that fight,” White said.

The FOX Sports 1 program reported earlier that Nate was very interested in the fight with Brown. Conversations with Brown’s manager suggested the fighter is open to all options, but wouldn’t confirm they would accept a fight with the younger Diaz brother.

When asked if the UFC would consider the Nate-Brown scrap, White denied any possibility that the fighters would be paired in the Octagon.

“There’s no way … We never even considered that fight,” he said. “Nate Diaz did say he was interested in that fight, but that fight doesn’t make sense. He’s fighting at 155, he’s lost two of his last three fights, and Brown’s on this unbelievable roll.”

Brown most recently defeated Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 40. The win was the fighter’s seventh in a row.

Nate hasn’t fought since November of 2013, and has had a public feud with the UFC regarding his contract. Nick, meanwhile, is semi-retired, having not fought since March of the same year.

  • put me in the sauna coach

there’s no way this could be a boring fight. Hope it happens.

    • Piotr

Nick will never fight again. Unless it’s for a title, so he’ll never fight again.

      • Rob

So…you’re saying he will never fight again?

        • put me in the sauna coach

          but….will he fight again?

  • Charles

Nick “The Can Crush” Diaz won’t get far with Brown. Brown isn’t a minor league fighter or fighting up a weight class. He’s a durable, moves forward, heavy handed and doesn’t gas easily. Basically a better version of Nick.

    • Stephen Quadros

I’m no Diaz fan but he wins this fight easily

    • deepgrim

i think its an ideal fight for nick, its an opponent who wants to stand and bang, nick has beat plenty of people of fighters who had heavier hands than him, anyway the fight would be awesome, would hope it lasts a few rounds if it did happen

    • http://www.CombatScienceMMA.com/ CombatScienceMMA

What minor league fighters and cans has Nick fought? His resume is filled with tons of big names. He also went up in weight 179 and 180 to fight. Nick doesn’t get finished, moves forward and certainly doesn’t gas. I don’t know what your talking about.

      • TheCerealKiller

Besides BJ, that never should have been fighting at 170, who? Nick Diaz is all hype.

        • http://www.CombatScienceMMA.com/ CombatScienceMMA

It’s not like BJ was a stranger at 170. He defeated Hughes twice and had two very tough fights with GSP. I can understand if people don’t like Nicks personality but he is a talented fighter. I mean I guess everyone can just go on wikipedia look at his resume and make up a reason why every win he had wasn’t impressive enough, or the pro fighter he fought was a can. Like I said I understand that everyone doesn’t like his personality but the guy is tough.

    • Johnny

you know Nick knocked out Robbie Lawler right?

      • TheCerealKiller

10 years ago! Anything older than three years ago is completely irrelevant in MMA. Fighters get better, some get worse. It’s a “what have you done lately” sport.

        • Cerealkillerkiller

Really, three years is irrelevant? Why not two, or one? Fact is all of his fights are relevant, and made him the badass he is today. I guess since fights older than three years are irrelevant, mayweather only has a couple wins, and Anderson silva is just 3-2

      • Darin

Phil Baroni knocked dudes out too, so what? Close the history book and be relevant.

  • Piotr

Nick is a mouth. That is all he is. His drunk a$$ talks all kinds of sh$t, then when they ask him to fight, he’s nowhere to be found. Then after it’s too late to fight he has a million excuses.

  • Piotr

Nick is a mouth. That is all he is. His drunk self talks all kinds of
smack, then when they ask him to fight, he’s nowhere to be found. Then
after it’s too late to fight he has a million excuses.

  • Bob Sacamanto

Nick is one of the best fighters because he comes to fight, he just has a problem with guys who would rather win than fight.

  • Bob Sacamanto

After seeing how hurt brown got by those body shots from silva, he would be wise not to take this fight

  • Corey Hutton

No way a Diaz could beat Brown, they’re to one dimensional. Besides, Brown wouldn’t be dumb enough to fight the fight a Diaz can only win.

    • Baller31

Diaz one dimensional?? Better striking AND better ground game than brown

      • Wolf Ticket

He’s just better, that’s very one dimensional :) Got better cardio too.

  • bro

Nick lost 2of his last 3 too this fight dosent make sence

    • JCA1623

Nick lost 2 oh his last 3 also, this fight doesn’t make any sense.
Got your back bro. Don’t want anybody thinking you work for MMAWEEKLY.

    • http://www.CombatScienceMMA.com/ CombatScienceMMA

Nick lost a very close fight to Condit for the interim title and to the dominate champ in GSP. Those losses are nothing to be ashamed of and certainly doesn’t take Diaz off the top 10. Matt Brown fighting a guy who ranked 14 and wanting a title shot is what doesn’t make sense. If he can beat Nick Diaz that puts him right in title contention.

      • julian moran

exactly.. And if they fight, when Diaz beats Brown, he should also be back in the title contention.

        • http://www.CombatScienceMMA.com/ CombatScienceMMA

Exactly why Nick should just make a pay day and earn a chance to be in title contention quickly. All the fans would love this fight.

    • lowlb

      no bro, just no…

      • Darin

Yes bro. Nick is a loser in every sense of the word and MB deserves better.

        • Badabang

          Did nick bang your girl?

  • julian moran

I would love to see Nick Diaz vs Brown.

    • Adam Coffland

I would love to see Nick versus anyone, at this point. Damn, I miss the Diaz bros.

  • Baller31

This would be an amazing matchup!

  • uncle

The Immortal by TKO Brown is 1 of the most violent fighters in the UFC

    • lowlb

      you are high

    • Baller31

So Paul Daley, Robbie lawler, condit, GSP couldn’t ko him, but you think brown will??!

      • TheCerealKiller

To be fair, GSP can’t knock anyone out.

        • Baller31

True, but the rest can. And although I like him, brown is not in the same class as GSP when it comes to standup or ground game.

        • Ian Price

He can. He just fights cautiously.

      • uncle

Damn Robbie Lawler thats old pal that is was way back when he had hair, but Brown is another animal my dude

Nick is a good boxer but I don’t see him
winning in a fist exchange with Brown he gets hit he will crumble don’t act like Daley
didn’t drop him a couple of times in that fight. I have no dog in the fight its just my
prediction I will enjoy this fight and happily

        pay for it

        • Baller31

Nobody’s ko’d Diaz, and I feel Diaz’ striking is on a much higher level than brown’s

          • uncle

How can they if he is not fighting ?

    • Joe McNeil

Yeah you’d be my least favorite Uncle. But seriously though man, you don’t really think that right? Anything can happen but, boxing skills, grappling skills go to Diaz. I assume Brown would use a lot of kicks but he’s not ko’ing Diaz. Come on Uncle!

      • uncle

I agree with anything can happen im going to put my money on the fighter with

7 wins not the 1 coming off 2 losses

        • Wolf Ticket

7 wins against guys not in top 10 vs 2 losses for the UFC title. I would take the bet anytime (based on skills and toughness only).

Seriously, how many of those 7 can you name out of your head?

          • uncle

Who cares if they are not top ten
guys ?when is the last time Nick beat a top ten guy? Brown is the new breed and finishing his fights
Mein and Pyle are not cans I’m
rolling with Brown he is motivated
to be the best right now Diaz is
            burned out and delusional Brown
is like the sleeping giant that has
awaken so don’t jump ship when
            he beats his a**

          • Darin

How many top 10ers has Diaz beaten (guys that are still relevant)?

        • deepgrim

its about who you fight sometimes, by your logic if for example soa palelei and jds fought, soa would win because he is on a massive win streak and jds has lost 2 out of the last 3

          • uncle

            Your example don’t even match
            the circumstances, I know Diaz
could beat Brown just like Brown can beat Diaz if its a fight so Diaz fans must be half zombie
            because its absurd to
think Brown is a easy fight for
            anybody at 170 right now

          • deepgrim

yes brown could definately win the fight but personally i would fancy diaz if he would take the fight. Its definately a fight that both fighters wouldnt mind, nick has problems with strong wrestlers and want a fighter to stand and bang with him. brown would do that so he may end up taking that offer, i would love to see it happen

      • Darin

Stop envisioning the Diaz of 5 years ago, he isn’t that guy. He’s slow, predictable, and he’s been figured out. Do you really think he’s somehow better than the guy that lost to Condit NOW? He’s worse.

        • Lucas Freire

          He’s been figured out. LOL
His losses were to GSP and a controversial loss(which I agreed, though) to the top3 of the division.
Matt Brown has no game to put up against Diaz, he’s entertaining, has heart…but Diaz is on another level.

  • http://www.CombatScienceMMA.com/ CombatScienceMMA

Matt Brown needs this fight to happen. Everyone else is pretty much booked. He is on a nice win streak but hasn’t fought one guy in the top ten, minus Dong Kim who he lost to but that was a very long time ago.

  • lowlb

I love this fight but it’s step back for Diaz and a supreme loss for Brown. I like this fight because it will be entertaining. Easy win for Diaz though… easy..

    • Darin

Thanks for the laugh. I had a bad day at work and that made my night.
So…..Diaz…the dude who’s last fights were losses to Condit and St. Pierre, the dude who has only gotten fatter and more bitter since those losses, would beat Brown “easy”. You must be smoking some Diaz quality weed…..

ANY fight would be a big step forward for Nick, considering what he’s been up to lately. And he should be eternally grateful for the opportunities that Dana keeps throwing at him. But of course he isn’t the least bit grateful, he’s a Diaz.

      • Brownisallhype

Who has Matt brown beat?? Oh yeah, nobody that is ranked. Meanwhile, Diaz has always fought the top guys. Considering they both like to bang, and Diaz is a far better striker, and far better on the ground, yes it’s an easy win for Diaz

      • Lucas Freire

Brown is on a tear now, but he has weaknesses on his game. And all his weak points are Diaz’ strong ones.
Diaz can keep up with Brown’s rhytm, can outstrike him and if the fight goes to the ground…Brown’s great run is over.
You have to remember that this Matt Brown is the same guy who was submitted 100 times. He’s a brawler, he brings it on everytime, but so does Diaz. Who is also more technical in every aspect of the game.

      • lowlb

I’m happy to give you a good laugh man..
Nick’s loses were against the #1 and #2 guys. Matt Brown just beat-up a Brazilian ken doll. …and I really enjoyed it..
I like Brown but he’s got some tough fights ahead of him.

  • dandogood

Nick Diaz has some serious mental issues to deal with and is living on the edge of insanity. This will not end well for Nick or nate Diaz. Look for a tragic ending and short lives.

  • jimmy777

THIS WOULD BE A GREAT FIGHT!!!!! – No hugging or laying on top, this would be a standup war!!

  • Johnny

Clearly these comments are mixed with veteran diehard MMA fans and new mainstream fans… veterans know Nick Diaz will beat Brown if this fight happens, but if Brown beats Diaz it no doubt makes him apart of the elite forever… seein some of these comments where ppl callin Nick one dimentional and not worthy enough is wild, and is obvious that whoever is saying that is a new MMA fan. hes all mouth but he backs it up… he only loses to bear huggers and he KO heavy hitters (Daley, Shamrock, Cyborg, Fickett and Lawler – just fough for title) and should won the fight Vs Condit … this fight would be perfect for UFC Nick and Matt … if you dont respect Nick Diaz you are not a true MMA fan, he deserves w/e money he asks for

  • Diaz is done

Veteran diehards have an issue of living in the past. Nick Diaz is a has been. Brown is a current badass, a new generation, get over it, Diaz lost his edge and he knows it. Feuding over money he has no more of is the only thing that he has, which is a smoke screen for the truth, he’s dodging an ass kicking from the division!

    • johnny

and if what your sayin is truu then this would be the perfect match-up

    • johnny

and as for the money he wants… hes the biggest draw in the welterweight division w no GSP… idk about the 500k he asked for but hes def worth 250+… theres no non-title holder that gets bigger buys then him… he even gets my PPV buys then current champs… Hendricks, Barao, Mighty Mouse, Aldo… really only Pettis Bones Weidman and Cain get more buy, and theyre gettin PPV revenues and bonus’ in the millions… why not give Nick half, or even a quarter mill, Eddie Alverez gets more then Nick cmon now

  • Obi-Wan Granoli

blah blah this and blah blah that, this would just be a great fight period.

  • dandogood

Nick and nate Diaz are two imbeciles low bred bad genes dumb and who were raised without manners or respect and who were poorly educated and live on scraps. good.
