It’s been a long road for women to finally get the chance to compete inside the UFC Octagon, and it will happen
in 2013 with the debut of champion Ronda Rousey.

For years, UFC President Dana White has been against a women’s division due to a lack of depth outside of a few key figures at the top of the sport, but now with Rousey’s emergence as a legitimate star, the promotion is willing to give it a shot.

So beginning next year, the 135lb division including Rousey will debut in the UFC.

Dana White talks to MMAWeekly.com about the new division, Cris Cyborg’s chances of fighting in the UFC, and how this new deal affects the existing relationship between the UFC and Invicta FC as well:

“Trying Out” a women’s division. 2 years and women will be out of the octagon for good, and I have nothing against women’s MMA, but facts are facts. Rousey will lose and Dana will lose all interest.

Yeah, you are a complete idiot if you think women’s MMA only consist of
Rousey. There are numerous great women out there and once they get the
exposure they deserve with the help of the UFC they will get the fans and followers like all newcomers do when they join the UFC.

      • Mark McDowall

He’s not completely an idiot…because the UFC womens division only consists of Rousey. There are no other female fighters under contract. I think he is jumping the gun with all these announcements. You can’t have a “division” and a “champion” of said division if there is no one for them to compete against.

They need to hurry up and sign a bunch of these other women up so that it will become legit. Right now its nothing to even talk about.

hopefully dana will work something with shannon knapp and get invicta’s talent involved

I’m guessing you mis-read my post Diablo…I cannot, CANNOT, stand Rousey, all she is is an overhyped one trick pony. I simply am stating fact that in Dana White’s mind Ronda is the be-all-end-all in Women’s MMA and that HE will lose interest once she loses.

    • Mike Oxafloppin ft,Mark McDowall diablo have to admit that Ronda Rousey and first quality fighter, she no longer and the only being good for fight in the UFC with has my patriot and frightening cris cyborg she and of she destroir everything more the front seems a male man kkk i know not in would gain she!

Cyborg vs Rousey is the only female fight anyone gives a crap about ! this woman division will be even worse then the 125 division.
