Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor Emelianenko – Could it Happen?

Fedor after defeating Tim Syliva at Affliction 1It’s a well known fact that UFC President Dana White loves to appease the fans, and give them what they are asking for most.

If there was one occasion where White fell short in that goal was his desire to sign former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko.

The Russian legend never fought in the UFC and despite White’s best efforts, he remains the great white whale to his Captain Ahab.

So when White recently visited the popular Underground forum and sparked a debate about a possible super fight between Emelianenko and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, the fans exploded in response.

“What happened was people were asking ‘could Dana make this fight’ and then I asked them how many people really want to see this fight? I was asking a question,” White said when speaking to UFC Tonight on Tuesday.

The overwhelming answer from fans was ‘yes’ they would pay to see the fantasy fight between Emelianenko and Lesnar.

“I guess a couple people want to see that fight,” White said with a smile.

While the conversation is beyond interesting to MMA fans from all walks of life, the likelihood of the super fight actually happening seems all but impossible.

Lesnar is currently under contract to World Wrestling Entertainment through at least the biggest part of 2013, and Emelianenko retired after his last fight earlier this year. When it comes to Dana White, the best phrase to use is ‘never say never’ but this fight isn’t one any fans should hold their breath about.

“I’ll tell you this, I have done so much to try to get Fedor in the UFC. You know how I am, especially when I say it publically, like this is an obsession, I’ve got to get this thing done, and tried to get it done,” said White.

“The crazy thing is people are asking me to make this fight when they know Fedor is retired. The guy retired. I couldn’t get him when he was fighting, now we’re on such good terms I’m going to pull him out of retirement?”

Emelianenko has remained fairly quiet since he walked away from the sport, and with Lesnar back in the pro wrestling world, the bout will likely never happen but MMA fans everywhere can continue to dream.

    Who cares about Brock Lesnar?

That is a win/win fight for Dana. He knows people will pay to watch either fighter fight and…
If Lesnar wins, Dana will say “I told you so, Fedor is a bum”.
If Fedor wins, Dana will say “Brock Lesnar is finished.. Come on, the guy is a WWF fighter.. Both Overeem and Velaskes smashed him…”.

Fedor is 3-0 since he reinvented himself, I believe he would beat 80 percent of the UFC HW rooster.

Just bring Fedor in the UFC and have him fight his way up to the title. Fans want to see it, Fans will pay for it, Fans deserve it.

Fedor could earn more money in the UFC then Brock. But he decided not to take a chance. He won’t reinvent himself with another 30 fights against that kind of opponents.

    • FlowWithTheGo

Reinvented himself? Since when was going BACK to fighting over the hill guys & cans reinventing himself? He’s going back to what he was after being KO’d by a LHW, TKO’d by a guy who has lost his last 2 with 1 being a horrific 4min utter beat down; and submitted by a guy, who was barley top 10 at the time, 1min into the fight

Fedor should fight Cain Vasqeze. About the same size.

    • http://www.facebook.com/jean.valjeantwo jeanvaljean-two

Of course. Cain is much younger.

    • Lesnardo

Dude wtf are you talking about. Cain is waaaay bigger than Fedor. They may be of similar height (Cain is slightly taller) but the body frame is uncomparable. Cain could make 250 easy. I don’t think Fedor was ever 245+ and during his prime used to come in around 230.

Brock Lesnar is the last guy fans should want Fedor to fight. The guy has 8 fights under his belt. SO many more names out there, even LHW would be more interesting. I used to be a real big fan of Brock too, even from his college wrestling days but when he jumped ship back to the WWE is when I lost a lot of love for him.

    • Lesnardo

I say Brock beats Fedor. And I am a Fedor fan.

Brock’s recent losses to Cain and Alistair, and his performance against Carwin do not mean that he sucks or was never good.

The dude can still beat Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, Brenden Schaub and other UFC middle-of-the-pack nobodies.

I think Fedor vs Frank Mir would be a more evenly matched fight.

        NO HEART NO WIN

“It’s a well known fact that UFC President Dana White loves to appease the fans, and give them what they are asking for most.”

LOL! OMFG! Damon Martin. Not only are you a poor writer, you are also a dishonest one.

“The Russian legend never fought in the UFC and despite White’s best efforts, he remains the great white whale to his Captain Ahab.”

Have you even read Moby Dick? God..you make me laugh.

“I’ll tell you this, I have done so much to try to get Fedor in the UFC. You know how I am, especially when I say it publically, like this is an obsession, I’ve got to get this thing done, and tried to get it done,” said White.”

LOL! Why would you want to sign an overrated bum by offering him way more money than any of your fighters?

    • bajafox

Do you just log on to criticize all of Damons work? Get a fkn life man, this guy at least has a job, what do you do? Collect unemployment like the rest of Amerka?

  • goleta83

Monson and Ishii are anything but cans. How was your first week of middle school?

  • Machterf5

Really? I was so happy when I didn’t see this crap on MMAWeekly because I had to read about it from the hacks over at Bleacher Report. SMH.

Im still confused on Fedor’s reputation…he never really fought any great fighters…and of the ones that are notable he either fought them when they were past their prime or it was a horrible fight and beat them by decision.

And I dont think Brock will ever come back to MMA…he has a VERY cushy gig with WWE now…he’s getting paid an F ton of money to perform once every couple months.

He never fought any great fighters? Noguierra and Crocop in their absolute prime? Are you serious?

Make anything happen with FEDOR that you can as long as M! is out of it. I believe he can beat any heavyweight in the UFC without the politics.
