UFC president Dana White says Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva deserves the rematch with heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.

It was announced on Tuesday that Velasquez’ first heavyweight title defense will be a rematch with “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 160.

Silva and Velasquez first met at UFC 146.  Velasquez grounded and pounded Silva into a bloody mess and finished by technical knockout in the first round.  Since the loss, Silva has put together back-to-back knockouts over Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem.

“Bigfoot Silva, Cain beat him pretty easily, and he just came out and knocked out Alistair Overeem.  It’s tough to not say he shouldn’t get another shot at the title.  I mean, I think everyone pretty much felt that way after the fight,” White said during Wednesday’s UFC on Fuel TV 7 pre-fight press conference in England.

“That fight happened because (Silva) knocked out Alistair Overeem in spectacular fashion.  If you sit there and look at the guys who are in the heavyweight division who are next, how do you say he doesn’t deserve it? Alistair Overeem was the guy a lot of people believed could go in there and win that title, and Bigfoot weathered his storm and viciously knocked him out,” said White.

“The guy deserves the shot.”

UFC 160 is expected to take place on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.  Former heavyweight titleholder Junior Dos Santos faces Alistair Overeem in the co-main event.

I hate to say it but I agree, there really isn’t anyone else to fight him this soon.

I think even if (when) JDS beats Overeem he won’t deserve a shot at Cain just yet. I would like to see Roy Nelson get a shot at one of the top 5 or top 3 HW’s. He looked great in his last fight and nobody in this division has a chin like he does.

its too bad his cardio is nothing compared to cain if they’re gonna go 5 rounds. everyone knows cain is a cardio machine.

I thought Vitor’s knockout of Bisping was done in pretty spectacular fashion but apparently not enough to deserve a rematch. I guess Vitor should have kicked Bisping’s head completely off and then dribbled it around the octagon and then done a signature Kareem skyhook into Rogan’s lap. Seriously though, you gotta love the consistency here.

Yep pretty much, Dana just needs to spew his bs and sell the fight

I agree Dana is full of sh&% when it comes to his decisions on matchmaking like this. In the case of Vitor in the middleweight division, I didn’t think Bisping deserved the shot anyways. Chris Weidman is the #1 contender – before and after Bisping got KO’d. So its hard to compare this situation.

Sorry, but it’s very easy to compare them. We’re not talking about who the fans think is the #1 contender. In both cases the guys who got knocked out were going to get a title shot if they won. The difference was that Bigfoot, who wasn’t supposed to get a shot if he won got one because he won in spectacular fashion. So, that being the criteria, why not Vitor? Was Bigfoot the #1 or even 2 or 3 contender before knocking out the Reem? I don’t think so.

JDS is better than Cain. You should rather say Cain deserves a rematch with JDS! JDS is the best HW living atm,

Agreed, We’ve all seen JDS go 15 hard mins before, and this time he gasses out in 3 ? Pretty obvious (except to all the Cain nut huggers ) That there was something wrong. With that being said i though Cain looked like s*** too, Until JDS started gassing he was making Cain look like a chump with those take down attempts. Cain had him on the ropes four mins into the fight and couldn’t seal the deal over the next twenty one mins.

If bigfoot deserves a rematch after being DESTROYED for almost 4 minutes, then Vitor Belfort deserves a rematch after getting caught with one lucky kick that no one had seen used like that before. We’ve all see front push kicks but no one had seen one to the face. Vitor Belfort wins the rematch.

cyborg vs. ronda is the only women’s fight i would pay to watch, this division has epic fail written all over it.

I saw nothing spectacular about Reem gassing out and keeping hands down… If there is nobody better then Bigfoot, Cain should take a vacation…

Travis Brown was going to be pretty close to next for a title shot until Bigfoot knocked him out. Alistair was suppose to get a title shot after the Bigfoot fight. Bigfoot KO him as well & you say he doesn’t deserve it?
