UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva

While top contenders question whether or not UFC middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva is really injured, UFC president Dana White asserts that the champ’s injury is real.

“He’s not faking anything,” said White following the UFC 140 post-fight press conference on Dec. 10.

Middleweight and light heavyweight contender Dan Henderson recently stated that Silva “won’t fight.”

“There’s only one fight that I’d probably fight at 185, and he won’t fight right now I guess. That’s Anderson,” Henderson said at UFC 139 pre-fight press conference.

Top middleweight contender Chael Sonnen outright accused Silva of ducking a rematch with him and alleged that the shoulder injury that has sidelined Silva is a fabrication.

“I don’t believe Anderson is hurt. I know he says he’s hurt then he’s at training camp with Wanderlei [Silva]; they got caught on tape. He just got done working out with [Lyoto] Machida; they got caught on tape,” commented Sonnen.

“Yeah, I think he’s ducking me. I think he’s ducking Dan Henderson. I don’t know that he’d be eager to fight Bisping… but no, I don’t think he’s hurt,” added Sonnen.

Silva holds submission wins over both Henderson and Sonnen.

Following Silva’s UFC 134 win over Yushin Okami in August, he was reported to have bursitis in his shoulder that would require time off to heal. He was expected to return in early 2012 and a rematch with Sonnen was in the works for Super Bowl weekend. The injured shoulder turned out to be worse than expected, forcing Silva out of action until summer 2012.

“People don’t realize how old that guy really is. 37 years old and still doing what he does. Everybody is like, he’s faking this shoulder injury. He’s (expletive) 37 years old. Believe me, he’s not faking anything. He’s not faking (expletive) at 37, believe me,” stated the UFC president.

Sonnen faces Mark Munoz on Jan. 28 in Chicago on the UFC on FOX 2 fight card to determine the No. 1 contender in the middleweight division. The winner will face Anderson Silva when the champion is healthy enough to return.

Silva already submitted both Sonnen and Hendersons cheating asses. Fight clean or don’t fight at all.

    • TKD

Sonnen is going to get his ass kicked again, so let it happen. I’d love to see Silva destroy Henderson again, too.

  • RubeKegal

“Sonnen and Hendersons cheating asses”? <– care to explain???

Silva does not want to fight Sonnen again and honestly who would? Noone in that division wants to fight Sonnen.

    • KBEsq

Well, explaining Sonnen is easy. He had higher than normal levels of testosterone in his system, even for being on TRT.

Dan Henderson is also on TRT, but has never tested above normal levels. TRT allows you to test pretty high before you test above normal levels, so to some people, including myself, that is cheating.

Silva is going to kick Sonnen’s a$$ when they fight again, and they will fight again; Silva knows it. He’s not running from anyone and this story proves it. Sonnen fans need to keep their mouths shut just like Sonnen needs to keep his criminal, cheating mouth shut.

Seriously, look up what Sonnen plead guilty to. I’m a real estate attorney and I see what he did all the time. It’s pretty low down.

    • jflo

Hey RubeKegal u dbag, Sonnen failed a drug test for synthetic testosterone after the fight with Sylvia. Sonnen’s T/E ratio was nearly 17 times that of a normal man and more than four times higher than the allowed maximum for an athlete!! he cheated RubeKegal, can u read RubeKegal or u live under a f*c*king rock?? He was also plead guilty to felony fraud; As the agent for a home sale, Sonnen told the title company to pay a plumbing company owned by Sonnen’s mother for repairs, even though he knew that they would not be carried out. After the mortgage company agreed to the loan, the plumbing company was paid $69,000, and then the plumbing company, at Sonnen’s direction, paid the home buyer $65,000. Sonnen pled guilty to charges of money laundering in connection with mortgage fraud on January 3, 2011. The maximum sentence is 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine, but as a result of his plea and agreeing to cooperate with the investigation into a ring of mortgage fraud, Sonnen is expected to receive two years probation, a $10,000 fine, and the revocation of his realtor license. Sonnen, a licensed realtor in the State of Oregon, admitted that a financial transaction he conducted was designed to conceal or disguise the ownership and control of the proceeds of wire fraud. As for Dan Henderson, hes never been found guilty or test positive but Anderson did beat his ass, he talking for a big pay day and another ass beating by Silva. Sonnen is a liar, cheater, and a snitch, how do u defend that RubeKegal?? U dbag!!

  • kevstinx

Why would anyone want to fight someone who cheats and breaks the law ?

Sonnen has to be the least honourable ufc fighter, typical corrupt and spoken like a bent politician.

**** talk from Sonnen is just aggrevation to provoke the title shot.

If Bisping keeps talking **** will he be given a title shot? Most likely not!

  • KBEsq

Another thing that needs to get said regarding lame Sonnen fans who don’t shut up: Sonnen was given a chance to wait and he didn’t! He obviously cares more about making money quickly than ensuring he faces Silva. He also wants to be able to run his mouth.

How can anyone say Silva is scared?! Not only does this story confirm he’s not faking (and don’t tell me you can get anything from doctors; these are UFC doctors who check them with a motivation to say there is no injury), but in Silva’s own mind, he probably thought that Sonnen would just wait it out anyway with all the crap he’s been talking. Either that or Silva thought even if Sonnen did take another fight, he would probably win and he’d be fighting Silva anyway.

There’s really no way Silva gets out of fighting Sonnen and he knows that. Leave the guy alone for wanting to be healthy for someone who’s going to have synthetic man juice running through his system through their fight, and Silva can’t do anything to stop it.

At least Silva has balls that generate his own will to fight. Sonnen has to buy chemicals to create a will to fight.

    • TKD

Well said. Silva will have an easier time with Sonnen this time around. He won’t have illegal drugs to contend with, and Sonnen will lose.

  • mmafan7

Sonnen only talks s*** so he can put himself on the map. Maia made him look like a b**** on the ground, and he went to decision with Dan Miller and Okami… He’s good, but not great. Silva’s ability to submit him under pressure show that patience in a tough situation will pay off. He didn’t roll over, he didn’t give up, and Sonnen being too aggressive and over thinking it got sub’d. He’s a good wrestler, but can get submitted because he thinks too highly of his wrestling compared to BJJ. Making yourself marketable is the new way to get noticed and get into title contention it seems.

  • phrankthetank

Whether sonnen was on the juice or not, as soon as the bell went he bolted across the cage and punched silva in the face every round. He did as well as he did because he dictated the pace of the fight.

  • mmafan7

Yes, you make a point. Sonnen is no p***y, but Silva doesn’t crack under pressure and it seems as though Sonnen thinks too highly of his wrestling as compared to other’s BJJ. I think he’d have trouble with even a guy like Palhares cuz of his ground work and power.

…on a side note, who else here would love to see Maia Vs. Palhares? 2 of the best submission specialists in the division.

  • Reading White’s comments, the fact that Anderson Silva doesn’t turn 37 until April 2012 strikes me as comical.

  • Obarmarama

    I really like Hendo’s walk out T-shirt.
miND (and a couple of shots of TRT through the balls every morning) overcOme all

  • KBEsq

    Lol best comment ever.

Also, Silva needs to stop wearing those glasses. They probably cost thousands of dollars, but they look like he picked ’em up at a gas station.

  • jjbones

    Silva isn’t faking.

Sonnen didn’t wait because he’s been on the shelf obviously needs as much experience as possible.
