DanaWhite_UFC90Weigh_2010UFC president Dana White met with Fox executives on Tuesday to, in part, to discuss the launch of Fox Sports 1 on Aug. 17, and the live event the UFC has planned for the network’s debut.

“I can tell you this, we’re going to put a ridiculous card together for that fight,” said White during a question and answer session at Herald Square in New York on Wednesday.

“I haven’t even made the card yet.  A couple of fights still need to happen and build the card, but I’m telling you it’s going to be the best television card we’ve ever done,” said White during Thursday’s media day at Madison Square Garden.

The success of the Fox deal is important to White, from a business and personal standpoint.

“It means a lot to me.  When you think about the fact that we couldn’t get, we couldn’t get on pay-per-view 11 or 12 years ago.  And now Fox is looking at us as a key piece of this puzzle to build their sports network.  It means a lot.  I’m going to work hard and do everything that I can to make it work,” said the UFC president.

White promises a big fight, much like the heavyweight title bout between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos that kicked off the UFC’s relationship with Fox networks on Nov. 12, 2011.

“It’s the launch of this new sports network with those guys.  We’re going to make it so that people are going, ‘I have to find this Fox Sports 1 channel.  I’ve got to watch it tonight.’  We’re going to put a serious fight on,” he said.

“We’re going to take a big hit on the chin on the pay-per-view because we’re going to put a pay-per-view fight on Fox Sports 1.  It will be a big fight.”

Last UFC on fox was as good as you can hope for. Especially if you count the prelims.

Dana can say whatever he wants about Spike TV being shitty and how Fox is so much better. But, at least Spike TV kept to the time slots and rarely, if ever, went over on their broadcasts. I can’t think of a single show, outside of the Dos Santos-Valasquez fight, that didn’t go over in time. I hate having to remember to add an extra hour to my DVR if I can’t watch it live. Fox needs to cut out the garbage commentary like they do for the NFL and stick to the fights.

I like the commentary, I’m not trying to go against what you’re saying, but I’m sure some people enjoy it. If the biggest problem in your day is the small inconvince of adding a little extra time on your DVR so you can watch free fights, then I’d say that’s a pretty good day. But of course, you are entitled to b#tch and moan about little things if you’d like too.

what’s your problem? You’re complaining you get an hour more of mmabroadcasts on free-tv? Spoiled much?

      • MrMMA

Clearly you missed the point and didn’t read the comment. You’re not getting an extra hour of Fights. You’re getting and extra hour of the unnecessary commentary that Fox likes to add to its broadcasts.

Nope, By far the greatest card has been over taken by UFC on FOX 7. It had everything except a kick ass WMMA fight. 9.9/10
