Dana White: Jon Jones Wants to Fight Daniel Cormier Next, Not Alexander Gustafsson

Daniel-Cormier-vs-Jon-Jones-478x270The UFC has plans to match Jon Jones with Alexander Gustafsson to headline a UFC pay-per-view in August. The only problem they’re running into with making that match official is apparently Jones’ willingness to sign off on it.

According to UFC President Dana White, Jones is unwilling to fight Gustafsson. Instead, White explained that Jones desires a fight with Daniel Cormier.

“Just to clear up a couple things, people think we’re in contract negotiations with Jon Jones – we’re not. Jon Jones still has five fights left on his contract,” White said in a statement Monday with UFC.com. “So what we’re doing right now is trying to get him to sign the bout agreement for Gustafsson. He doesn’t want to fight Gustafsson. … Lorenzo and I have a meeting with Jones on Thursday to get him to sign the bout agreement, and he’s asking to fight Cormier instead.”

Jones and Gustafsson fought an epic battle last September at UFC 165 in a match that fans and pundits alike have described as one of the greatest fights the UFC has ever put on. Jones won the fight by unanimous decision, and the champion later admitted it was the toughest fight he experienced in his professional career to date.

In his last bout, Jones coasted for five rounds against Glover Teixeira and won another unanimous decision, which set up a rematch with Gustafsson. The Swede then reportedly signed his part of the bout agreement, leaving the ball in Jones’ court.

Jones is yet to comment on the situation.

What a joke. This is why Bellator is better , in a tournament format you fight who’s next not who you want. Jones has done this before with the Chael fight, but now it’s just obvious he’s scared of Gus.

    • Lt. Dangle

I agree tournament style is better and more fair, but be real. Bellator is a F’n joke.

      • grashopper

Lol bellator is better! It wasn’t to long ago that they let there ww champ walk because they couldn’t find anyone to beat him then they had rampage and Tito headlining a ppv, then they sold wolf tickets for rampage and king fo. I don’t like Dana but it is what it is the ufc delivers.

        • Ian Price

          Wolf tickets

    • DREW JITSU

Champs don’t get to pick who they want to fight .. What about schlemenko supposedly he wanted that fight with Tito .. Did he not pick his last fight ?

      • Shartnado2, the Sloppy One

Huh? That was a gimmick fight not a title fight

    • Michael Smith

He didn’t take the Sonnen fight on 2 weeks notice. There’s no shame in that. Sonnen is a guy you have to prepare for and Cheal only said he’d take the fight because he wants a shot at a title. When he got it he got destroyed by Jones. BEAT DOWN!

      • Shartnado2, the Sloppy One

He has plenty of time to prepare for Gus now. Whats his excuse now?

    • Seth

Bellator…hmmm…”place where title shots are earned, not given”, right? Pat “Poster Bi-a-tch” Curran knows thing or two about it. Anyway, becuase of their tournaments, they already have 2 winners that didn’t receive their title fights and WILL NOT recieve it in upcoming 12-18months. So how’s that better?

  • Joe

The UFC has a precedence for this in Tito vs Chuck. Gustafsson earned the next title shot, so give it to him, if Jones doesn’t sign to fight him match Gus and DC for the interm title, and make it clear that the only fight on the table for Jones is a unification bout, unless he vacates the title.

I’d rather see Jones fight DC as i think DC will rag doll him, but fighters, even champions don’t get to pick their opponents. This sets an example for everyone else going forward.

  • uncle

The fight is already booked Jones is scared of Gus

  • Dan

    Whos the BOSS DANA

    • DREW JITSU

Agreed .. Is it jones or Dana white from this “I get to pick who I want to fight ” thing I’m thinking jones does

  • Jones does have stones

I completely disagree I think jones is sacking up to fight the best light heavy in the world way to go Jon DC will beat jones in give Gus a shot nxt

    • uncle

Everybody has to a duck a beer bottle once in their life

  • Piotr

Jon “lookin for easy fights” Jones.

Oh, I forgot, that’s the Greg Jackson camp motto.

    • Darin

How is DC easy? He has destroyed the list of who’s who in the HW division. Nobody has ever even had him hurt. And he doesn’t appear to have lost anything by dropping to LHW, he just has smaller oponents. Sure, Jones has a big reach advantage, so did Antonio Silva.
Jones is annoying, but I think he just has motivation issues with fighting the same guy twice, not fear.

I figure he’ll do a lot of backing up with DC and try to squeek out a decision, but I think DC will finish him convincingly.

      • deepgrim

I think DC is a very tough fight too, but am not convinced he will definately win, if he gets well on top with his wrestling as on paper he should then he has a really good chance but jones is a very good wrestler too. regardless i think he will still end up fighting gus first anyway, think dana is trying to make out he is scared of gus to get him to sign

      • Michael Smith

Frank Mir and Roy Nelson are the who’s who in the HW division? You’re joking right? And a washed up Hendo and he deserves a title shot? Again, you must be joking. I want to see him beat a top 10 UFC fighter before even being discussed in a title conversation. Cormier has done nothing but blow through second rate competition his entire career. He couldn’t finish Mir or Nelson, and an old and washed up Hendo at LHW doesn’t earn him a title shot. How bout he beat somebody real and shut his mouth. He’s trying to talk his way into a title shot he doesn’t deserve.

      • Ian Price

I think the Jones camp thinks he can at least keep DC away with oblique kicks and trying to blow out his knee, and do the old “hand on his head” kid game. I really do think the Jones camp thinks Gus is more dangerous, so why not fight DC first, because he’ll only get better.

  • Darin

Part of it may be Jones fearing the rematch, but I think he just doesn’t like fighting the same guy twice. Awhile back there was talk of him fighting Machida again, and Jones said he didn’t want that fight. Was he scared of Machida? Unlikely, he just wouldn’t have the proper motivation going into that again. DC called him out, so I think he’s in Jon’s head. Jones doesn’t want to try and focus on Gus when DC is filling his mind.

That being said, I think DC is the tougher fight. I think DC will beat both Jones and Gus within the next year, and will hold the belt for a while.

    • Clay

Completely different circumstance buddy. Gustafsson actually had a legit chance of beating him. He almost won that fight and had him badly hurt. He is the only fighter that Jon Jones has fought so far that has given him a close fight. So when people say he may be afraid they have a point. As for DC, he is still untested when it comes to the LHW division He has yet to fight a top 5 fighter.Gus is # 1 contender he deserves that title shot.

      • Ian Price

I think you’re forgetting just how many heavyweights he ran through. Heavyweights who were taller and longer and younger. Didn’t matter, he simply won, because of his wrestling, punching power and speed. And now he’s 40 lbs lighter and even faster, even more endurance. He is not built for heavyweight, just as big country and hunt should also be fighting at LHW and everybody knows it.

        • DREW JITSU

Yeah all true but can u deny Gus his shot after knowing that he is the only one who has challenged jones and nearly beat him.. Dc is the next in line after Gus and he just has to wait his turn .. Jones shouldn’t be picking who he fights .. Plain and simple …

          • Ian Price

I can’t deny it. That’s why I’m not really upset about Gus getting the shot, assuming bones signs. I just happen to think DC could beat all LHWs and most HWs

          • Alex’sMom

Okay so..knocking out Bigfoot, beating Barnett, Mir and Nelson doesn’t count…right?

          • Seth

I give him credit for Barnett. Bigfoot is prolly 2nd most overrarated HW ever, right after Fedor, which wa proved when he was MURDERED by Cain, without putting ANY resistance. Mir and Nelson – come on, really? If DC is THAT good, he would finish at least Mir. We all know how Mir’s chin reacts to hits, KOing him isn’t hard.

So…yeah, beating Barnett isn’t enough to get him a title shot at LHW.

        • Clay

Dude you make a great point. I’m a big DC fan. I’ve seen how he wrecked the HW division and with such ease. I also do believe he belongs in the LHW division. All I’m saying is that he is simply untested in the LHW division. He needs to fight a top 5er before he gets a title shot. That’s why I think it’s unfair for him to get a title shot before Gus. However, I do think he does have the tools to beat Jon Jones so I’m cool with either fight.

          • Alex’sMom

So by your logic Anderson Silva vs JBJ should have never been discussed. Silva doesn’t have a proven track record at 205.

Also, Cain Valesquez should start at the bottom of the pecking order at 205 because he has no track record there.

Dude….what DC has done at HW partly carries over to LHW.

If I asked if Chris Weidman can beat Johnny Hendricks, you would say yes. You wouldn’t say “well Weidman has no track record at 170 so I would bet against him.”

A fighter coming from a heavier weight class doesn’t necessarily have to have a long track record for fans to estimate his potential at a lower class.

          • Seth

Wrong example. Anderson/JBJ would happen as P4P #1 Vs #2, not as a Anderson being a challenger for his belt. So, anyone who’s undefeated and change weight should get immiedate title shot? Awesome. Nurmagomedov will have a chance to fight for 145 belt then! Your logic isn’t best either.

          • sevendays7

What are guys talking about?? Untested at LHW….give me a break. Anyone who can dominate Dan Henderson at any weight class is more than tested.

          • Seth

Give ME a break. You really think Hendo is a “test” at LHW? Today? With his current form? Come on, man…any LHW could beat Hendo today – im huge Hendo fan, as everybody else, you just can’t dislike him as a fighter – but he should retire a while ago. Now he only gets beat up unless he hits you with his right hand of doom. But by any stretch THAT’S is a real test for DC. Hendo isn’t even top 15 at LHW…

  • Heard

Who is running the UFC Dana or jones . John jones is scared nobody has beat him up like Gus and he don’t want it again

  • greaseygranny

This is so pathetic. Champs trying to pick and choose their fights instead of fighting the #1 contender. When does it stop? Anyone that says Jones isn’t running is a Jones fan. Not an MMA fan. End of…..

    • Alex’sMom

I personally am more interested in seeing JBJ vs DC.

Gus did well in the first fight but I don’t see him beating JBJ.

      • sevendays7

I can’t believe more people aren’t excited to see DC fight Jon Jones. I feel like Gus could win a decision over Jones. I feel like DC could dominate Jones. I would definitely prefer to see DC fight Jones.

  • Grisscoat

I predicted this a week or so ago here. Has nothing to do with Jones being scared of Gus, which is simply a lot of Jones-hating wishful thinking. Jones and his camp see Cormier as an easy fight, which it would be in my opinion. What Jones really wants is to shut Cormier up in August and then roll straight into another camp for the real challenge — Gus at year’s end. Then, whatever the outcome, I predict Jones takes the first six months of ’15 off.

  • Troodie

you guys are looking too far into it… “he doesn’t want to fight gustafsson,..” this is Dana White misconstruing another fighters words. how often do we have to hear him misquote fighters before we realize that maybe those words never came out of Jon’s mouth and Dana just wants to mix things up a little. i cant count how many times I’ve heard dana say “THIS guy doesnt wanna fight THIS guy” knowing damn well that fighter never said that.

    • Seth

Ok. So how JBJ said that? I mean, if he didnt say “I don’t want to fight Gus and I want to fight DC”, then how he said it? It doesn’t really matter – if UFC told him that Gus is next in line and he said no, or said “I want to fight DC” or “I would rather fight DC” or whatever – that means he DOES NOT want to fight Gus. Other way, he would say yes and sign to fight him.

      • Alex’sMom

I would “prefer” to fight DC rather than Gus.

Different from “I don’t want to fight Gus.”

        • Seth

Not really, because by saying this he still declines to fight Gus. That’s my point – it doesn’t matter how he said, as long as he still says no to a fight UFC offered him. He’s a champ, he has no right to cherry pick his fights.

  • diazfan209

Respect to Jones for wanting to fight the best in the world even though he’ll get tossed around like he’s in a washing machine.

He’d be “running” if he accepted the fight with Gus instead of answering the call-out from DC (who’s #1 p4p in my opinion).

Having said that, even though I’m a DC fan, I really wanna see a Gus vs Jones rematch, badly.

    • The guest of guests

Did I really just read this? One simple statement: DC couldn’t have been champ in his natural weight class whether he was training partners with Cain or not.

      • Seth

Give him a bye, he is diaz fans. He can’t be smarter than his idols.

        • diazfan209

Don’t give me a ‘bye’, give me a joint! ;)

          • Seth

Nope. You already had enough of that. Pack up your stuff and go back to school :D

    • Seth

“diazfan209″ <– enough said. As smart as his "idols". DC is nowhere near being ranked top 10 at LHW. Rankings are based on what you did – and at LHW so far he beat unranked nobody and non-TRT MMA-grandpa, who is not relevant at this weight class anymore. Go back to watchinch Nicky fighting unicorns. Sounds like being high is another ting you have in common with "209".

      • Alex’sMom

I wouldn’t say he is not even top 10 at LHW…Given what he has done at HW and his performance against Hendo (who I would say is top 15 at LHW) I doubt he is outside top 10.

DC is probably #3 at LHW.

        • Seth

First of all, Heavyweight resume doesn’t (or at least shouldn’t) count at LHW. Those are 2 different weight classes. Second of all, Hendo isn’t even top 15. He’s 1-4, how does it makes him top 15? Rankings are based on who you beat – and he beat two unranked LHW. I’m not saying he’s not REAL top LHW. Im just saying ranking wise, he’s not near Top 10, as he didn’t even step foot to a cage against top 10 fighter at 205.

  • mmalive

All you Jones haters are CLOWNS and NOT Legit MMA fans. Gus did have Jon hurt. Did Gus finish him? NO. Jon fought hard for remaining rounds en route to decision win. Jon is arrogant and not like able. But at the end of day he is still CHAMP!!!! Jon proves it time and time again why he is CHAMP.

As far as DC. He will not have good chance as Jon will pick him apart. from round 1 to final round.

Unless DC catches Jon. Unlikely due to Jon’s good foot movement.

BTW, I like DC but very hard to pick against Jones.

    • Seth

Its not about hating JBJ – but as a champion you do NOT pick who you fight. If UFC sayd Gus is next in line, that’s who you fight next. If he’s not scared and afraid that Gus can beat him – why he ducks him then?

      • mmalive

Why in the HELL would he fight a guy he BEAT? Aka Gus. Makes little SENSE. Here’s how Jones scenario will play out. Jones dismantles DC just to shut him up. Then come in and SMASH GUS for good measure. Then MOVE UP to HW division for ULTIMATE FIGHTER.

        • Dale

MMalive you are funny… If he beat the guy the first time why wouldn’t he fight him again? I had it for gus winning the first fight anyways. First time in jone’s life.. he finally fight someone his size, length and reach! Remember how jones put his hand on glover head? He sure can’t do that with gus… because hes to dam tall! He will punch him for it and move out the way!

As for dismantling DC? Lol we will see if that true…. We will finally see jones fight a TRUE LEGIT WRESTLER. Someone he hasn’t fight with his style in that weight division.. let see how he match up with defending his takedown.. If gus can take him down? Dam… imagine what daniel would do with his style of wrestling.

        • Seth

Why in the hell would he duck a guy he beat? Like Dale said below – if he beat him and hes better than him, then it would be easier to fight Gus than fighting someone that he never fought before. Again, that’s based on your claim that JBJ beat Gus.

          • mmalive

Who is the OWNER of the UFC Light Heavyweight Title? Jones HA HA.

Until someone had the LW title belt around their waist Jones remains CHAMP!!!

BTW, I DO NOT like Jones antics, cockiness, arrogance.

But FACT is he is CHAMP!!!

          • Seth

Owner? UFC is the owner of that belt. Jon Jones is current reinging champion. And champion do not cherry pick who he wants to fight, he should take all comers without asking a damn question. But again, that’s JBJ and his way of doing things. But you put ammo in our hands mmalive – he beat Gus already? Ok. So, since he did – why not fighting him again? It would be easy, to beat a guy he already beat once, right? Gus rematch makes little sense? Makes more sense then fighting someone who beat a coffee guy and irrelevant today old legend. Both guys were totally chanceless against DC and both guys weren’t top 10. And you want to give him a title shot? THAT makes little sense.

    • Bob Tarbox

Nobody gives 3 fucks about your opinion just so you know.

      • mmalive

Well, Truth DOES HURT that Jones continues to BE CHAMP!!! Take that to the BANK DUMMY.

BTW, I DO NOT like Jones but his record speaks WONDERS.

    • Clay

Not legit MMA fans? Listen the fact that you said Gus didn’t have Jon hurt shows me that you are a big Jon Jones d–k rider. Get off his nuts. Secondly, the fact that you’re underestimating DC also shows that you have no legit knowledge of MMA what so ever. You need to shut the f–k up.

      • put me in the sauna coach

Jones in that photo gasping: “Kill me”

        • Clay

          loooool

        • Bobby Z

Hahaha, I could almost see it, as well as Gus saying “you tell me who won”. lol.

  • Just-scrap-nation

He can’t avoid the fight for forever. Hopefully he signs but if he doesn’t and fights DC I hope Gus just waits for him. Not that I think Gus can’t beat other top guys at 205 but I just want him to haunt Jones until they meet and say he isnt going anywhere. But I’m sure if Jones beats DC he’ll ask to fight some middleweight.

  • Joe Dog

More and more like the WWE… Anderson Silva will fight Nick Diaz. Rousey and Carano, Sonnen title fights etc…

    • Seth

Actually Diaz/Silva is just a fight, Andy did everything he possibly could in MMA – so he can get a fight that makes no sense, but may be fun. Rousey/Carano would be just an exhibition to promote WMMA a little bit more before something more serious comes up. But have to agree with Sonnen. I like him, but I don’t like that he and Nicky talked their way into title fights.

  • dave

doesn’t matter, he’s going to lose either way!

  • Michael Smith

Dana is just hyping this fight because Jones is losing his selling power and the UFC PPV draws this year have sucked big time. Cormier doesn’t deserve a title shot because he hasn’t beaten anyone real in the UFC. Mir, Nelson, and Hendo? Spare me the nonsense. All 3 are mid tier talent at best. It’s gonna be Gus and lots of people are going to pay to see Jones get beat. They hope. As does Dana. He’s just trying to get people to pay for something and nothing more.

  • snapdad

I love how fighters are match makers. jones needs to fight who ever the ufc puts in front of him. I don’t go to work and negotiate what jobs I do. its the fighters job to fight and that it.

    • T1000

If you were the best in the world at what you do you might have the ability to do so.

      • Dellbert

This completely defeats what it means to be a champion.

    • Baller31

You’re 100% right. Jones needs to man up and stop ducking Gus

  • Guest

And there goes my respect for Jones out the window. Well sooner or later he’s gonna have to fight Gus anyway.

  • T1000

I don’t get all the hate for Jones in this situation. There are legitimately 2 guys with a shot at beating Jones in DC and Gustaffson and he’ll end up fighting one and then probably the other. I want to see the rematch with Gus as much as anybody else but have no problem if he fights DC first. I think based on Cormier’s resume, skill set, and potential he deserves a title shot. So he hasn’t beaten a “top five” guy. Neither has Gustaffson and neither had Jones when he got his title shot. (I know a lot of people are gonna say Gus beat Jones but he didn’t. Maybe in fans eyes, even in mine, but their records say that Jones won.) Some people didn’t think Jon was ready when he fought Shogun but he got a shot based on his potential. Robbie Lawler is gonna end up needing two wins to get back to a title shot after a close loss so maybe Gustaffson will too.

As a fan I’m just glad that there are actually some high level contenders in the light-heavyweight division. By the time the Jones-Gus-DC love triangle is sorted out other potential contenders like Rumble and Phil Davis may be ready for title shots. It’s all good news for what used to be the UFC’s premier division and a division that a short while ago was almost dead.

    • Maddawgmar

Even Cormier said, that Gustafsson deserves this fight over him. Everyone in the world of MMA know who deserves this fight, except Jones. I feel he is scared.

      • natpaukar7

when did he say that? not doubting it I just want to read it

        • Maddawgmar

They weren’t in those exact words, but during the post fight press conference after he beat Hendo. He said that he will wait for the title fight, because Gus earned the shot. Plus he said after the Cummings fight, that he had to wait out Glover, and Gus.

    • Clay

What are you talking about Gus didn’t fight top 5 fighters before the title shot. He fought Shogun and Phil Davis who were both top 5 when he fought them. Also Jon Jones’ title shot was a special case. Rashaad Evans was suppose to fight Shogun at that event but he got injured. He had just fought Machida and Rampage was also injured. Those were the top three contenders basically unable to fight. Other than that no one wanted to take a fight with Shogun in short notice. That’s when White Dana asked Jon, and he agreed. Now I’ll give Jon all the credit for his confidence to go in that fight. That was His first Real fight and he won in dominating fashion, but you cant compare DC’s situation with his. Also, even though I’m a big Gus fan, I have no delusions that he won that fight. I will say this though, He did give Jon the toughest fight he has had so far. So ya I do think Gus deserves to fight Jon before DC. That said, I do agree with you that DC’s resume is really impressive and if he happens to fight Jon first I’m cool with it I think it’s going to be a good fight regardless. I am also happy with the high level of competition that is in the LHW. This used to be my favourite division and I think it’s finally getting back to the level of excitement that it used to have.

      • T1000

Gus lost to Phil in Phil’s second fight in the UFC. No way Davis was top five at the time. I suppose you could make an argument about Shogun but I’ve never really been impressed with Shogun since he fought Machida. The circumstances on which Jon got his shot are different but I see a lot of people arguing that DC doesn’t deserve it based on who he has fought so far. Guys like Jones, Weidman, and Dillashaw prove that sometimes you only need a chance to prove you’re the top guy.

        • Clay

Ok so I did some fact checking and you’re right about the Phil thing. Even so, DC has yet to fight a top 5er. You could make the argument that Shogun was kind of suspect going in to that fight but he was still a top 5er. If this was the HW division there’s no way I would argue against you. He is one of the most dominant fighters in that division, but this division is different. these guys are faster and have more endurance. The speed advantage that DC enjoyed in the HW division will no longer be an advantage. So in my opinion the only way to see if he can adjust to this division is to fight a top 5er. As for your last point, I totally agree. There are guys who are talented enough that they to have to move up the ladder to prove themselves. That’s why I personally wouldn’t be upset if DC does get the fight. I do think DC has the tools to beat Jon Jones.

          • Clay

that they don’t have to move the ladder*

  • Dunidain

Gus should have got and immediate rematch — Jones lost that fight — we all wondered if he knew he lost the fight — now he has confirmed it — However, I’ve never known the UFC to allow a champion to “duck” who they’ve determined should be the next opponent — However, Cormier would most likely defeat Jones anyway making a less interesting fight as Gus wins that one by KO

  • Shartnado2, the Sloppy One

I doubt Jones really said that, it’s just Dana trying to get Jones to sign the contract by pressuring him into it.

  • dandogood

This is America and Cormier is an American so let them fight and the foreigner can fight the winner.

Of course he doesn’t want to fight the swede. Many think the swede won and I for one do also. Jones got busted up in that fight. He knows he is likely to lose his title if he fights him again.

  • taylor2008

Jones is ducking the Swede. The Swede put Jones in the hospital last time. Alex moves pretty fast for his size.

  • Austin, TX

BS. He’s trying to get out of fighting Gus. He knows he lost. Dana: Gus, first, then DC>

  • mmalive

Who is the OWNER of the UFC Light Heavyweight Title?

    Jones HA HA.

Until someone has the LW title belt around their waist Jones remains CHAMP!!!

BTW, I DO NOT like Jones antics, cockiness, arrogance.

But FACT is he is STILL CHAMP!!!

    • Austin, TX

Put down the pipe Jones! Go to bed!

  • CodyShu

I really don’t understand how anyone can think Jones is ducking Gustuffson. If anything this just shows that Jones has bigger balls than we thought cuz DC has been on a tear in one of the best winning streaks we’ve seen in a long time in mma, dominating every fight emphatically. My respect for Jones just went up. Challenge the guy you haven’t conquered yet. Thank you Bones, go DC!

    • mmalive

      Cody, Nice point man.

These REST of the DUMMY CLOWN posters do not seem to realize that.

Posters hate Jones due to being a DOMINATE CHAMP!!!

Jones will shut down DC 1st and Gus next.

Jones will NAIL the coffins and bury these guys.

      • Austin, TX

We know its you Jon! Stop typing! Fight Gus!!!

    • Baller31

Gus is #1 contender. Cormier hasn’t beat any top lhw fighter. Jones got beat up and is scared, end of story

      • Kris-tyahn

A guy who’s foght/beaten Evans, Sonnen, Belfort, Rampage, Rua, Lyoto, Texeira etc., but he’s scared to fight a guy he’s already beaten?!? Ughh yeah, that makes so much sense, STFU you ass clown!
I’m not a big JJ fan, but to say that he’s scared, is probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read. Is JJ “worried” about a rematch with Gus? Possibly, but scared?!? Stop commenting about siht you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about!
As for Cormier not beating any top LHW’s, hummm who did Texeira beat again, how many top LHW’s did he beat to get that title fight?!? That’s what I thought, Cormier’s resume is more impressive than that of Texeira’s. Yes I’m including HW & LHW for Cormier, but he sure did make Dan Henderson look god awful, and even weak, something no one, not even A. Silva can claim.
JJ shouldn’t be allowed to pick who he fights, but if the UFC agree to gve Cormier the fight 1st, then they should make JJ fight Gustafsson right after, no if’s and or but’s about it! Unless JJ loses, then it would be up to Gufsson if he wanted to fight for the title or JJ, though I’m pretty certain Gus would be choosing the NEW Champ!

        • mmalive

          Kris,

          Nice point man.

THESE ASS CLOWNS posting here have NO CLUE on MMA.

The IDIOTS are WANNA BE fans.

Jones will DIS MANTLE Gus like the rest of his VICTIMS.

As far as DC, have him fight GUS.

The DEFINITIVE No Contender will be determined. there.

  • Shad

Jon Jones couldn’t even walk out of the ring on his own after the fight with Gus. He had to be carried out of the ring after the beating he took.

  • Dangerman

surely the issue here is that the UFC has an obligation to award the no 1 person a title shot to Gus – who has worked hard to get there…obvious exceptions are if opponents have met in say previous fight – ufc needs to make clear a standpoint here imo…..Jones u are a steward of the belt which belongs to UFC u don’t get to chose your opponents – u want to take control of your career – train harder – boxing has been spoilt by match making corruption – this is fighting not estate planning. Jon Jones only wants to fight ppl smaller than himself – FACT
