Dan Henderson Told He’s Fighting Lyoto Machida at UFC 156 on Super Bowl Weekend

Dan Henderson at StrikeforceDan Henderson is currently on the mend from a knee injury, but he’ll likely be fighting Lyoto Machida at UFC 156 on Super Bowl weekend… at least, that’s what he’s told.

“I was told that it should be Super Bowl weekend, Feb. 2,” Henderson said on Thursday night’s edition of MMA Uncensored Live on Spike TV.

No formal announcement is yet forthcoming from the UFC, although company president Dana White has been saying for the past month or so that Henderson would probably face Machida next.

Henderson was originally slated to challenge UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones for the belt at UFC 151 in early September, but suffered the knee injury while training. He fell out of the bout and the event subsequently fell apart, leading to the cancellation of UFC 151 altogether.

Henderson returned to training about a week or so ago, so an official announcement about the bout with Machida is likely being held up due to UFC officials waiting to make sure his knee will be good to go.

Featherweight champion Jose Aldo puts his belt on the line against newly minted 145-pounder Frankie Edgar in the UFC 156 main event on Feb. 2 in Las Vegas, while Rashad Evans and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira square off in a feature bout.

Machida for the win via crane-kick to the face :)

It could happen, but what’s more likely is machida or Dan win via decision. Dan could also KO machida in the first couple of rounds, and machida could KO anytime.

I think probably that someone is likely to win

        :-P

Since it’s not main event and only 3 rounds I can definitely see a decision happening.

Looking forward to this fight. Great match up. I’d say Machida has a slight advantage because he is so difficult to hit and has a more diverse arsenal of skills to win with, but I’d never count Henderson out. I’d say if Dan wins it will be by KO in the first or second…could see Machida winning by submission or decision.

Glad to hear about Dan’s fight with Machida. Now maybe he’ll start focusing his efforts on the preparation of this fight and quit whining about Chael versus Jones.

This fight is awesome and makes complete sense. Some people don’t want Machida to rematch Jones but if he beats Hendo in fashion he sure deserves it. And Hendo needs this to keep his status. Don’t ever sleep on Hendo.
