Dan Henderson UFC 157 Pre 7-478x270UFC light heavyweight Dan Henderson is focused on his June 15 main event bout with former light heavyweight titleholder Rashad Evans at UFC 161, but he still wants the fight that didn’t get to happen with champion Jon Jones.

Henderson and Jones were scheduled to meet in the UFC 151 main event on Sept. 1, 2012, but a knee injury forced Henderson out of the fight and eventually led to the cancellation of the event.

Jones instead faced Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 and Henderson’s title shot dematerialized.

The 42-year-old returned at UFC 157, losing to Lyoto Machida by split decision in an uneventful fight.  The loss removed Henderson from title contention, but the thought of facing Jones remains.

“Obviously that’s something that was supposed to happen last year and didn’t. And, you know, it’s more about one day I would like to fight Jon Jones. I feel like I have unfinished business there,” said Henderson on a UFC 161 media conference call.

To have any hope of a fight with Jones ever happening, Henderson must first get past Evans, and has put the fight that didn’t happen in the back of his mind.

“I’ve been 100-percent focused on this fight – not even really even concerned about what happens after,” he said. “Rashad’s extremely tough and very dangerous, and I want to make sure I’m 100-percent focused.”

UFC 161 takes place on June 15 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and a win over Evans could hold the key to one last run at UFC gold for the aging Henderson.

Huge fight! Anything can happen in this one!

I personally wanna see Evans wins, cause dont wanna see him go 0-3.
One of them will take a good step backwards unfortunately.

    • R

hendo is 42. rashad is 33. This is hendos last chance, come on man!!!

    • ned sto

I want Rashad to lose, because I want him to drop to 185.

  • Cmon son…

I have this one for Hendo BY KTFO!

  • Sir_Roy

Rooting for Hendo. I think he has the better chin, and can turn Evans’ lights out if he goes in for heavy exchanges, throws combos, and doesn’t back down.

In a heavy exchange of attrition, while Evans has the faster hands, I still think Hendo’s the one who will walk away.

    • Baller31

I agree….Hendos got the better chin and more power, but rashad is quicker. I think either Hendo ko’s Rashad, or Rashad takes a decision if he plays it safe and can stay away from Hendo. I just hope Rashad comes to fight this time, unlike his last fight.

  • kbroesq

Yeah, Evans looked terrible in his last fight, but before that fight I would have said Evans would be able to grind this out. I think the fight is intriguing because of that.

On the Jones issue, Hendo…If you can’t beat Machida, then you ain’t beating Jones. I’m not one to engage in “MMA math” but in this instance, I think it’s justified.o

    • S

Jones wouldnt run like Machida from Hendo, he would probably try to finish him. Your MMA math equation is missing a lot of variables…

      • Cptmats

Machida didn’t run from Hendo. Thats just stupid !

I see this fight playing out alot like Rashad vs Rampage. Rashad will keep Hendo on His back and grind out a decision !

        • greaseygranny

Machida ran from Hendo bud. Who the hell wants to pay to see a guy not fight. Not this guy over here. Lost a lot of respect for Machida in that fight. I know what you’re gonna say. It’s his “Karate” style. But NO. Watch his other fights and then watch that garbage again. He RAN. End of. And I was a huge Machida fan.

          • Cptmats

I watched enough times to know he did not run, perhaps you need to rewatch it so you can see that it was actually Hendo circling the out side and Machida trying to cut him off for almost the entire third round !

          • greaseygranny

LOL. Little early to be that drunk bro. Machida did EVERYTHING he could to not fight. And he was very successful. Sorry bro, but your hero ran.

          • Cptmats

#1 Im Canadian and its never to early to be this drunk here
            #2 Im not your bro.
#3 I watched Machida make Henderson look slow and old for three straight rounds.

          • NY JOE

I’m not sure what fight they showed in Canada, but in the one that aired in the US Machida spent 3 rounds running from a frustrated Henderson, who thought he was being paid to fight.

          • ned sto

So how did the young and fast Machida not finish the old and slow Hendo?

          • Cptmats

            Who finishes Hendo ?

          • greaseygranny

#1 Stay out of your parents liquor cabinet.

#2 Correct. You’re no bro of mine.

#3 Please consider changing your name to Vagina Blood Fart or VBF. Just so your name matches your uneducated posts about MMA.

I don’t recall the Rashad/Ramage fight being one where Rashad held Rampage on the ground. I recall a fight where they both were too chicken crap to engage and back up all the smack talk they did on the show. Each one got hurt by the other 1 time, and spent the rest of the fight avoiding danger.
          Such is my recollection.

          • Cptmats

I recall Rashad being to chicken s*** to engage, running and laying on Rampage an Rampage to Fat and out of shape to catch him or finish the fight the one time he did catch him. I don’t think i have ever seen Rampage afraid to engage anyone except against Bones !

    • Baller31

I think Hendo would beat Machida…if Machida would actually fight Hendo.

  • Cereal Killer

I’m in no way a Rashad fan, but I see him beating the one trick H-Bomb pony.

    • Supaman

yeah, seriously. Hendo still has something left in the tank, but if Rashad comes focused and ready, he should be able to take this one.

Rampage was able to outmuscle, and takedown Hendo at will, so was Jake Shields (after round 1). Expect Rashad to do more of the same. Rashad has good enough movement to avoid the H-Bomb.

don’t see how Hendo has any chance against Jon Jones either. Hendo has limited time left, and has only 1 run left, he needs to move back down to 185.

      • Baller31

The Rampage fight was very close and could have went either way. Hendo was out of shape when he fought Shields…still destroyed Shields the first round (i’m surprised they didnt stop the fight), and then he gassed after that. Look at the fight and it’s obvious he was out of shape and on the chubby side. But I agree about Hendo vs Jones…his only chance would be to knock him out, and he would have to connect first.

    should b a 5 rounder !

  • MMA diehard

He will steamroll Rashad and then load up on TRT for Jon Jones……..Super H-bomb!

  • joe silva matchmaking sucks

If you think rashad will beat dan , you are an ultimate fighter generation mma fan and don’t know s***. Henderson by devestating KO worse than bisping. Hendo #1
