If Damacio Page is gunning for a shot at the WEC bantamweight title, he’s going to have to go through “Mighty Mouse” first.
No, not the famous cartoon character, but Matt Hume student Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, who has been tapped as a replacement to face Page at WEC 52 in Las Vegas. Page’s original opponent, Eddie Wineland, was forced to withdraw from the Nov. 11 fight with an injury.
The bout had been proposed as of last week according to sources speaking with MMAWeekly.com, but it wasn’t until Monday that the fighters both verbally accepted the bout.
Johnson (6-1) makes a quick turn around after his last fight at the end of September when he defeated Nick Pace at WEC 51. The win brought Johnson to 1-1 in the WEC after a loss to Brad Pickett in his debut bout for the promotion.
The bantamweight fight should still make the televised broadcast for the night.
Prior to a shoulder injury that forced him out of action for over a year, Page was at the top of the list of contenders to get a shot at the 135-pound title. The New Mexico fighter hopes to reach those same goals with his comeback fight in November.
