LAKEMOOR, Ill. – Known as the “small show with big fights,” X-treme Fight Organization held its 23rd event on Friday, April 25. Tapout was on hand in front of a large crowd to film Patrick Curran for a future episode of its show. Also, UFC fighter and former XFO Champion Clay Guida was in attendance to support the local fighters.
In the main event of the evening, Mike Marrello was unsuccessful at avenging a previous loss to Terry Davinney. Marrello was once again submitted, this time by guillotine choke. The loss is the second of Marrello’s career. The win crowned Davinney the new XFO interim light heavyweight champion.
Patrick Curran, cousin of top featherweight Jeff Curran, dominated Lazar Stojadinovic in impressive fashion. The fighters circled the cage early, feeling each other out. After a few knees from the clinch, Curran took his opponent down. From half guard, he unleashed a barrage of over twenty unanswered punches. Amazingly, the fight was not stopped.
The subsequent rounds resembled the first with Curran controlling the action. After three rounds, there was no doubt that the featherweight prospect had won his second professional fight and the judges agreed.
“He was a lot stronger than I thought he was, but I came out with the win,” commented Curran. “Thanks for everyone’s support. I appreciate everyone who made it out here.”
Mike Stumpf earned a split decision over tough veteran Eric DaVila in the fight of the night. Both fighters showed durable chins as they exchanged countless strikes and knees from the clinch. Stumpf proved his resilience after recovering from a hard right hook in the opening round and responding with his own offense. Both fighters were met with a great ovation from the fans afterwards for a highly competitive and exciting fight.
Brian Heden claimed the XFO heavyweight championship with a majority decision over Boban Simic. The former champion, Simic, was deducted a point for punching to the back of the head in the final round.
