Cung Le wanted to fight in the main event of the UFC’s first event in China, bad.
Bad enough that he tried everything under the sun to make sure the foot he injured in his last fight would be ready for Saturday’s UFC on Fuel TV 6 in Macao.
Le suffered a deep bone bruise in his win over Patrick Cote at UFC 148 in early July. Medically speaking, he was borderline as far as being able to make it to Saturday’s fight with Rich Franklin. But in Le’s mind, without question, he was always going to make it to the fight. So he did everything he could so that the foot would be in good enough shape that he could fight.
“I did so much crazy stuff to get my foot ready from Eastern medicine to Western medicine,” Le told Fuel TV. “But the craziest thing was bloodletting, where they punch a whole bunch of holes in my foot and then they drain it with all the stuff that was blocked up in there. Pretty, uh, pretty nasty.”
Le, of course, has refrained from giving his foot the full test in training, but feels like the fight with Franklin won’t be an issue. He’s ready to unleash the beast.
“I think my foot’s a hundred percent. I haven’t really kicked anyone in the head lately, but we’ll definitely find out (on Saturday).”
