Conor McGregor Says He’d Kill Floyd Mayweather and Floyd Scoffs At the Idea

Conor McGregor says things sometimes and you have to wonder whether he’s serious, joking, delusional, or just plain taking crazy pills.

This week’s contribution from the valedictorian of the Chael Sonnen School of Trash-Talk? The topic of Floyd Mayweather.

Conor talked to Esquire Magazine and said he’d straight kill Floyd if the two ever faced off. To the quoteage!

“I don’t look at a man who’s expert in one area as a specialist,” he says. “I look at him as a rookie in ten other areas. If you can box, what happens if I grab hold of your legs? If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather—pound-for-pound boxing’s best—if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than thirty seconds. It would take me less than thirty seconds to wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him.”

OK then.

Apparently, the always trusty TMZ crew caught up with Floyd’s entourage and they informed the site that the boxer “scoffed” at the idea that Conor would be able to do anything remotely close to what he’s talking about. Floyd thinks Conor is a joke, per TMZ.

“I don’t take that dude seriously. He’s just trying to get himself some publicity.”

Since this fight will obviously never happen, let’s review what fights they actually do have coming up. Conor’s got Jose Aldo in July in what’s probably going to be the biggest drawing UFC featherweight fight of all time. Floyd is fighting Manny Pacquiao on May 2 in a fight that will dwarf whatever Conor and Jose draw.

Yay sports beefs.

    And Floyd is right

    • Gogh

      So is Conor

      • Logan

Ya but the point Conor made is irrelevant. Comparing two different sports. Flip the circumstances and put Conor in boxing ring and see what happens.

Don’t get carried away with yourself Conor someone will soon knock the arrogance out of you, it won’t be Floyd though you aren’t worth enough, he’d earn more doing his weekend bets.

Floyd is a boxer. Conor is a “master of movement”. They don’t compete in the same sport. This article is totally pointless.

      I will never understand cross-sport comparisons. Grr…

      • Mr Smiff

I think we are talking about a fight…. who would whip whose a$$? boxing isn’t fighting. man to man, without boxing silly rules, Conor would whoop Floyd

        • RobC

The only reason either of them said anything is that they are athletes. McGregor refers to boxing and “10 other areas.” He is clearly talking about sport and not fighting. If he were just talking about fighting, I wonder what McGregor’s defense to guns, knives, clubs, biting, nut punches, and many other aspects of fighting would be – folding those things in would be “fighting without silly rules.” Those are part of fighting, and I don’t think McGregor is talking about those.

THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT SPORT. There isn’t any other conclusion. And Mayweather and McGregor compete in two different sports. McGregor would win in his sport, and Mayweather would win in his sport. This isn’t about fighting – it’s about sport.

            Exactly Rob,
            finally someone who understands

  • Sim Simi

don’t worry Conor, Manny will k.O mayweather on may 2

  • Gee

McGregor is correct. He’d whip Mayweather’s ass with the same relative ease that Mayweather slaps his own wife around with.

    • RobC

Usain Bolt would completely destroy Phil Mickelson in the 100 meter sprint.

This is the same garbage rehashed over and over again. It’s been proven just as much as it’s been talked about. Unless you know how to defend a takedown or know what to do once taken down there is nothing you can do shy of wining the lotto with the punchers chance. Shell defense, power double, mount, ground and pound. Boxing has no answer for that and never will. Side note, regardless of the draw Aldo vs Conor will be a much better fight to watch than Floyd vs Manny.

I’ll bet Serena Williams has no defense to LeBron James in a game of one-on-one.

    • sheep2012

That’s right. It’s a silly argument. Just look at toney/couture.

  • Unsigned Artist

Floyd is a boxer not a fighter, in a real fight Conor would f— him up real bad.

  • Logan

You’re right. Nobody ever would suggest that Floyd would beat even an average MMA fighter. Flip that over though and put Conor in a boxing match and what do you think would happen? Its a pointless trying to compare.

    • Logan

Not to mention, put Floyd in 4 ounce gloves, all he has to do is land the first punch and it would be game over.
The same argument was made for Couture/Toney and we all saw how that went, but it doesn’t change the fact that Conors only chance of beating Floyd in this stupid hypothetical is on the ground.
