Clay Guida Ready to Add Another Legend to His Hit List at UFC Abu Dhabi (Video)

Clay Guida has quietly built his career to a revered status, having fought numerous legendary mixed martial artists.

But like any world-class athlete, Guida isn’t satisfied with knowing he fought the best fighters in the world; he wants to be remembered as having defeated the best en route to earning the moniker of “one of the best” himself.

Having fought the likes of Josh Thomson, Gilbert Melendez, Takanori Gomi, Diego Sanchez, and Benson Henderson amongst others, Guida will face another legendary fighter in Tatsuya Kawajiri at UFC Fight Night Abu Dhabi.

“It’s been cool to follow [Kawajiri] in his career and put him on my list,” said Guida in this interview with MMAWeekly.com.

hit list or dry humping list?

  • The Prognosticator

Yeah, I have to agree with the idiots commenting on this article, Clay Guida is clearly not an exciting fighter. He only has two Fight of the Year Honors (2009 and 2007) and five Fight of the Night Honors with the UFC. It’s looks like the people commenting on this article are your typical moronic American MMA fans.

TBH, those fights became FOTNs because they were back and forth, but whenever Guida implied his game, he did his best to kill the excitement out of them.

      Examples:
      vs Sanchez – Guida won 2nd and half of the 3rd by LnP;
      vs Huerta – Guida won first 2 by LnP;
      vs Griffin – Guida won the 3rd by LnP;

Benson and Nate were good fights though – Benson was just countering all his attempts real good and made it exciting by being the dominant counter fighter, and Guida actually outgrappled Nate, having real dominant positions.
But overall, it’s not really Guida’s “fault” that his fights are exciting.

      • Alex

        Damn….I forgot to insult you.
        Sorry.

        (pssst…don’t tell anyone!)

        • The Prognosticator

With all do respect, your response does not make any sense. One fighter does not make Fight of the Year or even Fight of the Night for that matter. How many first round KO/TKOs that you know of are deemed Fight of the Year or Fight of the Night? In addition, your argument that Guida inadvertently has exciting fights due to the other fighter in the contest is patently ridiculous. See Guida vs Thompson, Guida vs Gomi. There I gave you another example, are you happy now?

          • Alex

I’ve seen Guida vs Huerta, you dumbass. And I even mentioned it in the comment – it’s not my problem that you have reading comprehension difficulties.

YOUR comment does not make sense, I just mention the FACTS like they are, and shove it into your stupid face, whether you like it or not.

            Rewatch the fights I’ve mentioned.
If you disagree with my analysis of those fights and rounds, tell me EXACTLY where and when.
If you’re unable to do it – GTFO LOL

(for once I tried to be polite here – but imbecile like you doesn’t deserve it, apparently :) )

          • The Prognosticator

Typical ad-hominem attack. You also did not answer my question about first round KO/TKOs. In addition, the Huerta vs Guida fight was not FOTN simply because of R3. If it was a boring “typical Guida fight” in R1 and R2, then an RNC in R3 would not have made the fight the Fight of the Night and Fight of the Year. That is a foolish opinion and I stand by my initial response. I am sorry that you are too childish to have a debate in an intelligent fashion.

          • Alex

What was your question about KOs/TKOs about? What is the connection between that and Guida’s fights? He never finished the fight that was FOTN.

As I said, first REWATCH Guida/Huerta (and all the others), then point EXACTLY where I’m wrong about their analysis, then come back.
Do your homework, boi. Try to prove that my analysis is foolish – you will fail and fail miserably.

And don’t get all butthurt – I just define who you are: a stupid kid. Don’t take it as an insult, try to evolve, it will help you out in life LOL

          • The Prognosticator

To address your first “paragraph”, it takes two fighters to make a fight FOTN or FOTY. There are quite few one sided dominations by one fighter imposing his or her style on the other that receive those high honors.

To address “paragraph” two, you have not made any “analysis” at all, but rather simply stated an opinion (One’s conclusion about something) that “Guida won first 2 by LnP.” I disagree, Guida was active on top and the fight was competitive when scrambles or stand ups took place (BTW that is not an analysis it is an opinion, which seems to have been shared by Dana White and the UFC, hence its FOTN AND FOTY honors).

Finally, to address your third “paragaph”, your foolish ad-hominem attacks show that your are very childish as I previously stated before. I hope I made this “analysis” (1: separation of a whole into its component parts . 2. a: the identification or separation of ingredients of a substance) simple enough for you to understand. You can have the last word too.

          • The Prognosticator

My bad…make it six Fight of the Night Honors!

    • put me in the sauna coach

I love how when someone doesn’t enjoy a particular fighting style then they must be “moronic American MMA fans.” Because if our opinion is different than yours then we must be in need of being educated by you. If you get excited by someone laying on top of another fighter and making no attempt to do damage, no submission attempts and not even attempting to improve position…then have had it. Slap a Guida poster on your wall and start having dry humping parties with your friends. I could care less if someone enjoys that…I just find it funny when people throw fits if someone doesn’t like that. Stop crying if someone has an opinion other than yours. Many fans find Guida boring, and find plenty of other fighters boring. I’m sorry you think people aren’t entitled to their view point…because that person has won fight of the night honors. BTW..a lot of people don’t like Obama even though he was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. Must be moronic Americans too eh?

      • The Prognosticator

You just contradicted your own argument by crying about someone’s opinion about Guida’s fighting style that is different than yours. You sure are entitled to your opinion on the subject as I am mine. I apologize if the insult hurt your ego. Also your analogy is inapt. Getting a Nobel Peace Prize has nothing to do with being a good President, whereas receiving five FOTNs and two FOTYs might, just might, have something to do with being an exciting fighter rather than a fighter “dry humping” his way to victories. I’m glad we could clear this up.

        • put me in the sauna coach

you should look up what contradicting means because you obviously got lost in your rants. And I didn’t cry about anyone’s opinion..saying “Have at it” and “I could care less if someone likes or dislikes that style” is the opposite of crying about an opinion. Glad I could clear that up that for you. Secondly you could make an argument that receiving rewards is based on the opinions of few…regardless what the criteria or the reward. And that whoever hands out these awards does not speak for the majority. I’m glad I could help you out on both accounts. Good luck in your continuing quest of forum insults and ignorant “American moron” labels. Keyboard on internet warrior.

          • The Prognosticator

You are quite inarticulate as well. I like how you state I don’t know what “contradiction” means (lets use it correctly in a sentence). You clearly did cry in your opinion labeling me a person that needs to slap a Guida poster on my bed and have dry humping parties (homophobe?), thereby showing the same disrespect and penchant for “educating others on MMA” that you accused me of in the first place. That is a contradiction.

Finally, your second point (which barely makes an ounce of sense) is just a contingent universal statement that is inapplicable to this situation. The preeminent MMA organization indisputably found that Guida has been in the most exciting fight on a card 5 times and the in the most exciting fight of the year 2 times. This lends credence to my view that he is not simply a “dry hump” fighter as you claimed. What don’t you understand about this? It’s really not that difficult.

          • put me in the sauna coach

still going? The internet force is strong with this one.

          • The Prognosticator

All niceties aside, please don’t ever procreate. You can have the last word moron.

          • put me in the sauna coach

And on this day the angry prognosticator typed his final insult and explored the world beyond his bedroom.

          • The Prognosticator

I made an error…make it six Fight of the Night Honors!

      • The Prognosticator

Try giving Guida the respect he deserves for putting his body and future on the line on a regular basis. I think it’s a fair inference to say that you will never do anything as notable in your life.

    • shakejunt

bob sapp must be exciting too. he’s a hoot when he gets beat up.

      • The Prognosticator

        Great logic lmao.

  • toom

I like how they didn’t mention him beating the current ufc champ maybe add that also lol

    • shakejunt

“clay guida also owns a 15 minute snuggling over current fight-ending champion anthony pettis 3 years ago.”

      • toom

So if you held Anthony Pettis down for three rounds you wouldn’t put that on your resume

        • shakejunt

a win is a win, but i think people hold this fight more against pettis than in favor of guida.

  • guest

Lost a lot of respect for Guida after the Maynard fight. Just saying..

    • shakejunt

really hoping this is sarcasm that’s being lost via text
