Claudia GadelhaInvicta Fighting Championships strawweight contender Claudia Gadelha has been forced to withdraw from Saturday’s scheduled title bout against Carla Esparza after contracting a bacterial infection.

“Claudia ran a high fever late Friday evening and went to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a bacterial infection in her intestines,” said Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp.  “We know Claudia wanted this title opportunity more than anything and all of us at Invicta wish her a speedy recovery.

“Tonight’s PPV will go on as planned with two world championship fights and a stacked undercard.”

Leading up to Saturday’s event, Gadelha told MMAWeekly.com, “(Winning the title) would mean the world. (It would be the) answer to 10 hard years of hard work so far away from my family and friends, fighting for a dream.”

Unfortunately, Gadelha will have to wait to realize her dream.

The Invicta FC 7 pay-per-view will now feature six bouts with the removal of Esparza vs. Gadelha, Knapp told MMAWeekly.com. There will still be two bouts streamed live, for free, at Invicta FC’s website.
