MMAWeekly’s Lee Whitehead reports from the UK that the British Middleweight Cage Rage Champion Mark Weir will be fighting in Japan in Bushido.
Dave O’Donnell, Cage Rage Promoter confirmed to MMAWeekly that Weir’s next fight will be in Pride Bushido against the highly ranked Ryo Chonan. The two are scheduled to battle in the early spring.
In other UK news, initial rumours of Igor Vovchanchyn squaring off against Vitor Belfort weren’t fallacy – The Cage Rage promoters were looking to book this fight but were unsuccessful mainly due to the proposed Open Weight Pride GP and the possibility of Vovchanchyn as one of the competitors.
Daijiro Matsui who faces an even tougher challenge this time round in Curtis Stout. Curtis is coming off a devastating knockout loss at the hands of reigning Cage Rage World Middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Matsui is widely regarded by the public as having won the Reid fight but will officially need to make his mark on a very determined Stout who will be looking to rebound in style from his last loss.
Alex Reid has been forced to withdraw from Cage Rage 15: Punishment due to complications in training regarding the healing of a large gash over his right eye suffered in his fight with Daijiro Matsui – Reid actually came into his fight with Matsui with the cut already butterfly stitched but the injury was made all the more severe due to the nature of Matsui’s attack.
