Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei SilvaBoth fighters have wanted it for some time now, and finally, Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva – if they can remain healthy for several months – will finally fight in the Octagon.

Silva and Sonnen will first coach opposite each other on the third season of The Ultimate Fighter Brasil. It marks the first time a non-Brazilian coaches one of the teams on the Brazilian version of the reality series.

“The coaches of The Ultimate Fighter Brasil are Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen,” UFC president Dana White revealed to Sonnen on Monday night’s edition of Fox Sport Live. “Then those two will fight.”

Sonnen, of course, played it off like he was unaware that the situation had been finalized.

“I gotta react here, but you kind of caught me off guard,” said Sonnen. “We’ve had a little bit of talks about this, but I didn’t know it was final.”

“You will coach The Ultimate Fighter and you will have a ton of security down there with you. It should be a fun season,” White responded.

Sonnen’s feud with Silva goes well beyond their public interactions on social media. Silva recently sought Sonnen out at the Mr. Olympia festivities in Las Vegas, video camera and security crew in tow, promising, “Everything you said about me will have a payback.”

The two will now get the opportunity to settle the score in the Octagon, if they can make it through filming, and several months of waiting for the fight to finally happen once the series has aired on television.

White’s comments about security for Sonnen were not made in jest. Sonnen has had a heated rivalry with Silva’s countryman, Anderson Silva, in which he’s made numerous comments that have infuriated many Brazilian fans, who have often confronted Sonnen when he is out in public.

Tryouts for TUF Brasil 3 will be held in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, Nov. 11 and are open to middleweights, light heavyweights and heavyweights. Filming is expected to begin in early 2014.

no brasilian will want to be on sonnen’s team

    • Maddawgmar

Hopefully they don’t assassinate him. 13 weeks is a long time in a country that hates you. I know I was in one for six months.

    • i would

    • julian moran

    • Mark McDowall

They might not want to…but if they want to get in the UFC then they will deal with it. Plus he is a hell of a coach and they may learn something.

  • David Huenecke

This is gonna be reeeeal bad for sonnen.

  • Stefano ‘Zwonimir’ Sega Nogaro

Sonnen again as a coach? 2 time in a year …
3 weight divisions? Hope they stops with MWs, there r many right in the roster …
Hope Sonnen will not bring his fascist behavior coaching in Brazil

    • Wolf Ticket

If he does, he’s definitely not bringing it back out of Brazil 🙂

Marketing-wise, this seems like a really good move. I think a lot of Brazilians will watch just cause they hate Chael, I am also curios how the fighters will accept him and how it all plays out.

    • Timothy Malone

Agree with the MWs thing. They have had middleweights on the first Ultimate Fighter Brazil, on season 17, will on season 19, and possibly will again here. Heavyweights havent been done since season 10. Only light heavyweight has been out longer but that will be on 19 too. (Obviously theyve never done flyweight but mixing them with heavyweights would be awkward lol)

haha bro dont use terms that you dont know the meaning too, the word i mean is fascist. is sonnen nationalistic? id say so but fascist? not even remotely.

      • MaritalArtist

Correct. Sonnen is a republican -libertarian. That’s the opposite of fascist.

  • dave

he will be fine- they love him in Brazil

  • solo

Well, its gonna be interesting for sure. I do believe Chael will be strictly professional in the house. And Wanderlei will get a chance to back up his words, but i think its just a horrible match up for him. Both fighters should get a great paycheck after all this.

  • HpPavilion22

it should be interesting,, gotta remember it is just a fight that will be stopped as soon as one of them gets hurt,, it will not be a fight to death.

    • MaritalArtist

I’m sure there will be an extra shot or two thrown after the fight is ended.

  • james j

    Classic move by the UFC.

  • Timothy Malone

Hopefully the Brazilian fighters can look past his trash-talking and recognize Sonnen is an experienced pro who can really teach them things.

Also if I’m not mistaken he can understand Portuguese correct? I remember him calling out Ed Soares for a mistranslation.

    • Darin

He doesn’t speak Portugese, but he has mastered the art of creating a rivalry out of nothing then squeezing a lot of money out of it.

  • I didn’t think this fight would happen. Great marketing by the UFC. Now all the fans will get to see the beef with Wandy and Chael. Both fighters will get to make tons of money off of this. I just hope everybody shows respect to Sonnen. The whole Brazil trash talk was all part of getting under Andersons skin. Chael is a veteran and it would be very good for your career to train under him on the show.

    • Mark McDowall

I agree with you BUT…Brazillian fans are die hard. They don’t forget anything…I don’t think that he we be able to show his coaching skills again. Although if the Brazillian fighters are serious about getting to the UFC they will look past it.

    • Lucas Freire

If any brazilian fighter watched the previous TUFs, they should know that being on Chael’s team, even though he doesn’t speak portuguese, is MUCH better than having Wand as head coach.

  • Fabricio

I’m brazilian and I don’t hate Chael Sonnen. In fact I think he will TKO Wand and I know a lot of people here who thinks like me. Sonnen will be safe and signing a lot of autographs believe me or not…

  • Marc Livingood

No it will be America vs Brazil
