Cat Zingano Wants Ronda Rousey Upon Return, but Won’t Target Her Training for Anyone

07-Cat-Zingano-TUF-17-Finale-w-478x270Cat Zingano is several months into her recovery from surgery on her right knee, but recently had to undergo another procedure, this time on her left knee, which had been overcompensating.

“My left knee, because I think for the compensation for taking care of my right knee, has been taking a little bit more wear and tear than it was used to,” said Zingano recently on UFC Tonight.

Instead of having a typical clean-up surgery, Zingano said she was opting for a stem cell procedure on Thursday.

If her rehabilitation goes according to plan, Zingano could still be back in the Octagon sometime around April of 2014.

UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey – whom Zingano had earned a shot against prior to her knee injury – will square off with Miesha Tate on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas, putting Zingano in a perfect position to fight the winner upon her return.

That’s what she believes the plan is, but although she’ll fight whoever holds the belt at the time, Zingano wants it to be Rousey.

“I’m not chasing Miesha. I already beat her,” said Zingano. “So, I’m really looking forward to Ronda winning that fight and starting right off where I left off (before my knee injury).”

Rousey has finished every opponent she’s ever faced in mixed martial arts via her patented armbar… that’s 10 opponents in all.

Zingano, however, has never targeted her training specifically to an opponent, and especially not to a singular technique. And she doesn’t intend to start with Rousey should that be who she is paired with next.

“I think Ronda, in her back pocket she always has that armbar in mind. No one’s really seen anything out of her yet; that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have anything,” said Zingano, pointing to part of the reason why she won’t train specifically for the armbar.

“Just because she’s done it all the way up until now, doesn’t mean she can do it to everyone, which is why I state my case that I’m not training for her. I’ve never trained for a single person I’ve fought. I only train to improve. That’s how I plan on continuing to go. I don’t know why I’d change anything now.”

    Not a wise move.
I remember some girls saying this…well, Ronda took their arms home.

a healthy Cat will kick Rhonda’s ass

Sorry Uncle, but it is wishful thinking that Cat will kick Ronda’s ass. You may not realize it but Cat (who is a great fighter) mma fights prior to Invicta has been a 120 to 125 lbs. Cat would be the #1 fighter in the world at 125 lbs. No one could touch her but at 135 lbs, she will not be able to be more physical then Ronda. At 145 lbs Julia Budd (5-2) has more strength then Cat (Cat would lose to Julia) and Ronda took Julia down and armbar 39 seconds. Julia is one of the most strongest women in mma (next to Cyborg). As for as BJJ skills Ediane Gomes (10-2) has Black belt BJJ, good wrestling skill and outstanding striker. Gomes is very physical with high skill and she will be fighting Cyborg very soon for Invicta 145 lbs champship.Gomes will push Cyborg better then anyone has. Cyborg will win but how will it compare to Ronda’s 25 second takedown to armbar….hmmm!!! Do you really think Cat is going to be more physical, show more skill, out strike, out wrestle Ronda… Ronda has already beaten bigger, stronger, faster-quicker and more skilled then Cat. Cat has good Mauy Thai, wrestling and BJJ but she relies on being more physical against her opponents. Watch her pass fights in Youtube. Cat wore down Meisha Tate and got her in the 3rd. Cat has to be ready from the start with Ronda… Love Cat but Ronda armbars Cat in 1st round.

That is correct, she needs to ensure she is 100% before challenging Rousey. Rousey beats her anyways, but she might put up a fight if she is healthy.

She makes a good point though, just cuz Ronda hasn’t used anything else, doesn’t mean she don’t have it. Rousey doesn’t have to train the armbar, it’s second nature. So her training must be in other aspects.

Thank you for talking about other skills then just Ronda armbar. If you follow Ronda training videos, you will see her improved striking skills over the pass 3years of Ronda entry into mma…oh, did I say she just started mma 3years ago. It took many years for Dan Henderson to develop the H-Bomb. If Ronda is still fighting by 30 year of age, you will see massive improvement (technical striking and KO power). She just chooses not to use it at this point. As for as wrestling goes, watch her training videos at Diaz gym in Stockton, ca and her home gym in LA. If she had chosen wrestling first instead of Judo, she would still have been competing at Olympic level in wrestling. She is a perfectionist and smart about her training. Time will reveal if this is true or not. The haters are waiting for her to fail and she may lose at some point. It will not be at the hands of Cat, Meisha or anyone in the UFC at this time. Compare Miriam Nakamoto to Cat Zingano, Miriam is just a bigger version on Cat Zingano. Mairiam is 5’9″ 140 lbs WBC World Champion at Mauy Thai. Miriam fights and 135 lbs (big cut for her) outstanding striker hands/knees/leg kicks. Has excellent take down defense. She is at a great gym/team for learning bjj but she is staying in Invicta. UFC has made an offer for her to come to UFC but she is waiting to improve her skills before she comes. The best threat to Ronda is Holly Holm 5’8″ (Big muscular 135 lbs) multiple world champion boxer (33-3) mma (4-0 all by KO). Great endurance, outstanding movement with feet, fast hands/striker and better kickboxer the straight boxer) …That is right, Holly Holm is a better kickboxer then she is a straight boxer…WOW!!! She began Winklejohn kickboxing class at 16 years old and started professional kickboxing first and then switched to straight boxing (more money). Training with Jackson/Winklejohn for over 15 years. She has cross train into mma and has bjj skills and great take down defense. To me Holly is the true threat but she is in no rush to get into UFC. Holly is a perfectionist like Ronda. This will be a great battle when it happens.

If your gonna throw someone into the mix, lets not forget about, Sara McMann. She is the best wrestler in the division, in all of women’s mma. She has the ability to stifle Rousey’s takedowns. Could force a stand up battle in which both are question marks until it is seen in the cage.

SMH Its called a kneebar or if ever leglock. Cat is a more solid bjj fighter than all the other girls RR fought, plus I doubt she’d be stupid enough to fight with a big weakness like “weak legs”. Lol but its mma so u never know how it all could go down.

Ronda would and will defeat Cat.
