It looks like Cat Zingano might finally be ready to make her way back to the Octagon.
It has been an extremely difficult year for the top UFC women’s bantamweight contender, but according to a report on UFC Tonight, Zingano is eyeing a return to the Octagon as soon as September.
Although talks are still in the preliminary stages, the report went on to say that the UFC is working on Amanda Nunes as a possible opponent.
The news wasn’t all that surprising after Zingano teased on her Twitter account that something was afoot.
“Starting my search of where I’ll do my next @ufc fight camp. Doing some sampling, then it’s ON! Big News coming soon!” she tweeted.
UFC president Dana White has been clear that Cat Zingano is still the No. 1 contender to champion Ronda Rousey. He’s been just as clear that she would likely need to take another fight before stepping in for the title shot since Zingano has been on the sidelines for so long. Rousey is also already scheduled to fight Alexis Davis at UFC 175 on July 5.
Zingano earned her shot after defeating Miesha Tate in April of 2013, but a knee injury forced her out of a coaching role on The Ultimate Fighter and out of the fight with Rousey.
Aside from dealing with the knee injury and complications that accompanied it, Zingano was dealt an even heavier blow when her husband, Mauricio Zingano, committed suicide.
Finally coming to grips with a terribly cruel set of circumstances, it looks like we might see Zingano back in the Octagon rather soon.
