A lightweight bout has been added to the upcoming WEC 50 show in August as Team Alpha Male fighter Danny Castillo returns to action to face newcomer and undefeated prospect Dustin Poirier.
The bout was announced by the WEC on Monday.
A powerful wrestler with heavy hands, Danny Castillo (8-3) comes into WEC 50 off of back-to-back losses for the first time in his career. Castillo lost a fight after a good performance against Shane Roller in November 2009, and was caught with a highlight reel head kick KO against Anthony Pettis in March.
Now looking to bounce back strong, Castillo will continue his training alongside former WEC champion Urijah Faber, as he welcomes some new talent to the WEC cage.
At a perfect 7-0, Dustin Poirier makes his WEC debut after spending his career so far fighting in regional promotions all over the United States and Canada.
A progeny under UFC middleweight Tim Credeur, Poirier possesses similar well-rounded skills as his teacher with solid stand-up and a dangerous ground game.
The lightweight bout between Castillo and Poirier will fill part of the untelevised undercard for the upcoming show that will be broadcast on Versus on August 18 from Las Vegas.
