Carlos Condit Looking for Redemption Against Johny Hendricks at UFC 158

Posted on by Jeff Cain

Carlos Condit 478x270UFC welterweight contender Carlos Condit is looking to bounce back from a loss in a big way by defeating Johny Hendricks and get back in the title mix in the UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz co-main event on Saturday night in Montreal.

“I’m looking for redemption.  My last fight didn’t go the way that I wanted it to, and I’m looking to come back with a vengeance and put myself right back in title contention,” said Condit.

The former WEC welterweight titleholder was defeated by champion Georges St-Pierre in November at UFC 154.  Hendricks is the top ranked UFC welterweight besides St-Pierre and UFC President Dana White has said that if Hendricks wins, he’ll be next in line for a title shot.

“Every fight is your biggest fight, and this fight is extremely important because I need to solidify myself as one of the top guys in the division,” said Condit.  “I’m just trying to win this fight and put myself in position to possibly get a title shot.”

For his fight with St-Pierre, Condit didn’t have trainer Greg Jackson in his corner because of Jackson’s mutual relationship with Condit and St-Pierre. This time around, Condit and Jackson are back together.

“Game planning and strategizing with Greg is really a key to my game and my success the last couple of years, so it’s been nice having him back,” he said.

Johny Hendricks is on a five-fight winning streak, and Condit knows he has a tough fight on his hands.

“Johny Hendricks is a phenomenal wrestler, a great striker.  He has made a great transition from wrestling into mixed martial arts and it’s going to be a really tough fight,” he said. “I’m definitely aware of what he can do.  I have to be cognizant of his talents, his abilities.

“I think we’re going to put on an amazing show.  Johny and myself really want this win, and we have a great skill set to make an exciting fight.”

am I the only person who is sick of people getting a title shot with one fight? Condit just lost to GSP. one win and he’s number one contender? I think this is a title Eliminator for Hendricks but condit should win a few more. Tired of dana basically getting rid of the idea of earning your way back to the top. it appears if you lose now you’re not pushed to the back of the line anymore

It isn’t that Cndit is winning one fight. It would be because he would be beating the number one contender. Other than Hendrix, there aren’t any clear contenders, except maybe Maia.

I agree, you should be required to have 2-3 wins before you get another shot. It gets old seeing a guy who just lost his title shot get another one after one fight. no matter who that one fight is against it doesnt matter.

I really dislike the idea of pitting 2 fighters who are coming off loses against each other so I’m really liking this paring. Hendricks is on a great winning streak and should he win, he shouldnt be denied another shot. If Condit wins, he’s back in the mix but I dont feel he should an immediate shot @ the belt unless its Diaz since has a win over him. Thats why the need to book Maia against the best guy available should GSP and Condit both win tonight. Maia is on a very impressive streak himself by goin back to his BJJ skills.

Carlos is champion except for one thing…GSP. No one else can stay with him.
