Carlos Condit at UFC 154 Weigh InsFollowing his win at UFC on Fox 5, welterweight Rory MacDonald made it very clear that he wants a rematch with Carlos Condit for his next trip to the Octagon.

Condit and MacDonald met at UFC 115 in 2010, and while the young Canadian won the first two rounds with takedowns and ground work, the fight was decided in the final stanza.

Knowing he was down on the judges’ scorecards, Condit came out and absolutely demolished MacDonald in the third round, getting the TKO stoppage with only seven seconds left in the fight.

Ever since that moment, two things have been a constant – Rory MacDonald hasn’t lost, and he also hasn’t stopped thinking about it.

“I was just laying there getting beaten on, my face looked like I was the guy from “The Goonies” after. I was embarrassed about my performance and how I held myself,” MacDonald said at the UFC on Fox 5 post fight press conference.

“It did a lot of damage and I don’t think I’ve been the same person since, so I want to get that back.”

The UFC also seemed interested in putting the rematch together, and now Team Condit has responded as well.

MMAWeekly.com reached out to Condit’s manager Malki Kawa, who just returned home from Seattle after another of his clients, Benson Henderson, fought at UFC on Fox 5.

When asked about a potential Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald showdown, he seemed more than interested in making it happen.

“Carlos Condit doesn’t back down from any man,” said Kawa. “If the UFC asks us to fight Rory MacDonald, Carlos will take the fight.”

One point of contention that will have to be decided however if the UFC opts to do the rematch is where it takes place.

Following his win over B.J. Penn on Saturday, MacDonald asked to face Condit in Montreal, where he trains and lives currently. Condit actually fought MacDonald in Vancouver the first time, which is just hours away from where the young Canadian actually hails.

So for the rematch, Kawa says that if MacDonald is gunning for Condit, why not make it happen in the fight capital of the world, Las Vegas.

For now, Condit is still resting and recovering from his last fight against Georges St-Pierre at UFC 154, and the promotion has yet to officially offer him any bout.

It seems likely however with both Condit and MacDonald interested, a rematch in 2013 could very well take place.

If not for GSP holding the belt, Rory would be looking for a title shot. I think a rematch is smart for Condit to take because with Rory being a top contender a win over here puts Condit right back in the mix.

      him*

UFC – make the fight!!!!!! Rory dominated Condit except for the last 10 seconds. If Condit dominated him, I wouldn’t be so quick to say rematch, but Rory lost it with 10 seconds left.

    • Ufcenforcer

Rory controlled the first 2 rounds. Condit smashed Rory throughout the 3rd rd which, had Rory survived, would have been a 10-8 for Condit and a draw. Condit will finish Rory again as he is still better everywhere the fight goes’

        Absolutely one hundred percent correct.

      • Kbesq

Yeah – I totally agree with this comment too. I hate hearing people get upset about McDonald losing that fight (more people were complaining before people started hating McDonald’s personality). I think the way you put it is perfect. Rory ‘controlled’ but Condit was never in trouble. Even when Condit took a kick to the face at the end of a round, he got up, and walked back to his corner like nothing happened.

McDonald, on the other hand, got annihilated in the last round. I’m happy the ref stopped it. Rory won two rounds; Condit won the fight. I wish they scored by the entirety of the fight, and not round by round.

  • Maddawgmar

I agree, taking the fight is the right thing to do, but don’t let Rory dictate where and when they fight. Condit won that fight decisively. Just like Silva won the first fight with Sonnen decisively. A finish is a decisive win regardless of what happened before it. Carlos owes Rory nothing. Rory made the challenge, thus he goes to him not the other way around.

So what is Rory going to do, fight every top contender so we have no legit challengers for GSP?? Makes no sense. But to fight Condit in a rematch is a must no matter what. I’m sure Condit wants this rematch as well b/c of everyone saying how he was being dominated and only won with seconds left. It would be a great fight, especially with Condit looking to keep himself in the top 5 after that great fight with GSP. No shame in that loss.

    • King_DG

I hope Rory does do that, so that GSP will have no contenders and will have to either fight Rory or move up and fight Silva!

  • Milos Rackovic

Respect for condit,he’d fight anyone. Rory would fight gsp, they would buy him with money in a minute of talk,so yea. Rory by a slight mergin

  • allang12

Nah, Tory beating an undersized aging bj doesn’t warrant a rematch with the no. 1 contender. I think Rory should fight nick Diaz. See condit fight big rig. Gsp won’t fight until the end of next year anyways. At the earliest late summer.
Let the other guys fight it out while gsp takes his time off.

    • onehitwonder

i hope Nick kicks the crap out of Rory also.

  • allang12

    Rory not Tory lol.

  • allang12

Nick backing into a championship fight makes less sense.
It would just be the same as Henderson diaz outcome.
We’ve already seen Rory condit anyways. Why see the same fight when there are so many awesome fighters weve never fought each other just waiting for there shot.

  • Derek Lemaster

I cant stand showboaters like Rory. Hope Condit smashes him again.

  • onehitwonder

i hope Carlos kicks the crap out of Rory, i thought it was vary disrespectful for Rory to start shuffling his feet during the fight when he already had BJ beat, it’s like kicking a dog after he’s already down. when Sonnen trash talks it’s funny, when Rory talked it sounded creepy, and i don’t like his white sweater either!!
