Carina Damm has been suspended for a drug-related allegation for the second time in her career.
Damm, the sister of UFC fighter Rodrigo Damm, was suspended for allegedly submitting a fake urine sample for her drug test related to her fight against Jessica Eye. The bout was part of the NAAFS show on June 1 in Cleveland.
Ohio Athletic Commission Executive Director Bernie Profato confirmed the news to MMAWeekly.com on Saturday. It was first reported by MMAFighting.com.
Damm was suspended for six months and fined $550, but she is still entitled to a hearing, initially set for Aug. 13, if she chooses to appeal, according to Profato.
“She was observed by another female, but it is difficult to actually physically watch the person go in the cup,” Profato told MMAWeekly.com.
“The cup she handed the person – who then immediately handed it a doctor waiting outside the room – was what was tested and the lab confirmed it was not urine.”
Damm tested positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, following her second-round submission of Sofia Bagherdai at Fatal Femmes Fighting 4 in California in 2008. The California State Athletic Commission suspended her for one year and fined her $2,500.
Damm lost a unanimous decision to Eye at the June 1 NAAFS event, but fought again just two weeks later in Brazil, winning via first-round TKO stoppage in 49 seconds. Damm’s professional record currently stands at 18-9, but she is just 1-3 in her last four bouts.
