Carina DammCarina Damm has been suspended for a drug-related allegation for the second time in her career.

Damm, the sister of UFC fighter Rodrigo Damm, was suspended for allegedly submitting a fake urine sample for her drug test related to her fight against Jessica Eye. The bout was part of the NAAFS show on June 1 in Cleveland.

Ohio Athletic Commission Executive Director Bernie Profato confirmed the news to MMAWeekly.com on Saturday. It was first reported by MMAFighting.com.

Damm was suspended for six months and fined $550, but she is still entitled to a hearing, initially set for Aug. 13, if she chooses to appeal, according to Profato.

“She was observed by another female, but it is difficult to actually physically watch the person go in the cup,” Profato told MMAWeekly.com.

“The cup she handed the person – who then immediately handed it a doctor waiting outside the room – was what was tested and the lab confirmed it was not urine.”

Damm tested positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, following her second-round submission of Sofia Bagherdai at Fatal Femmes Fighting 4 in California in 2008. The California State Athletic Commission suspended her for one year and fined her $2,500.

Damm lost a unanimous decision to Eye at the June 1 NAAFS event, but fought again just two weeks later in Brazil, winning via first-round TKO stoppage in 49 seconds. Damm’s professional record currently stands at 18-9, but she is just 1-3 in her last four bouts.

I don’t get it. If what she submitted wasn’t even urine, how did she expect to get away with it?

    • Cptmats

LOL. she submitted a sample from someone else !

      • Correct

Well clearly she didn’t as it wasn’t urine. It does say that in the article.

      • Ian Price

        Yeah, but whose??!

        • Cptmats

my bad, wasn’t even urine ! lol

    • El Gvapo

I was thinking the same. What was it, apple juice? How the hell could anyone think they’d get away with that?

    • Ian Price

Uh, how can I put this nicely. People whose jobs it is to get punched in the face aren’t usually rocket scientists.

sometimes they dip the cup into the toilet bowl real fast in hopes that there is trace urine amounts left from the previous person. if you know you are going to test hot then this is a 50/50 shot at best but still better than a 100% failure. more than likely what she did was dip the cup then press it to her body for a minute claiming she couldnt yet pee so that she could warm it up then handed it over. unfortunately for her there wasnt enough trace urine in the toilet to let it pass.

she isnt the first person to try this method. she wont be the last.

until much more strict standards are put into place this is going to be a growing and constant problem. the money is high enough now and the stakes are so high that far greater than 50% of pro MMA fighters are ‘supplementing’.

    • El Gvapo

Really? Interesting story there dude, provides a plausible explanation I guess. Still, the fact that someone’s plan to avoid being caught doping is to use this method is still incredible. But surely if they did dip their cup in the bowl then the ratio of piss to water would be fractional, even if the previous user hadn’t even flushed? Off topic slightly but I believe tennis has one of the loosest doping regimes in sport. If a sport on that level can’t combat cheats then I fear for a sport that’s still in its relevant infancy like MMA.

    • El Gvapo

Didn’t thiago silva test for non-human piss? Did he use that method? If not, do you know who has?

  • Justin Ernst

You think she’s bad? Last I checked there was a man competing in women’s mma. But seriously. I loath cheaters. It would be one thing if she was concealing a positive weed test, but her previous failure for steroids is a good indicator of why she did this.

Wow, her hair line starts in the middle of her head.
