A scheduled Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix reserve bout between Shane Del Rosario and Daniel Cormier has been removed from the promotion’s June 18 fight fight card in Dallas.
Del Rosario was recently involved in a car accident. Although few details are known, he received severe enough injuries to force his withdrawal from the fight, according to MMAWeekly.com sources. Del Rosario’s accident was first reported by MMAJunkie.com.
Del Rosario and Cormier are considered two of the brightest prospects in the heavyweight division. Both are undefeated. Del Rosario is 11-0, defeating Lavar Johnson in his most recent bout, while Cormier is 7-0 coming off of a win over former IFLer Devin Cole.
MMAWeekly.com sources said that Strikeforce has not yet decided if they will try to line Cormier up with another opponent or replace the fight altogether. MMAJunkie.com reported that a lightweight bout between K.J. Noons and Jorge Masvidal is likely to replace the heavyweight bout. MMAWeekly.com sources said that is one option, but that the promotion has yet to make a final decision.
