CONTACT: Armando Garcia, Executive Officer (916) 263-2195

SACRAMENTO – The Commission has begun an inquiry into the incident that occurred when Mike Kyle fought Brian Olsen in an MMA (mixed martial arts) bout that took place on Friday May 5, 2006 at the Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore.

Although the Commission did not supervise the event, its Executive Officer Armando Garcia stated, “Serious allegations have been verbally reported to me. If these allegations prove to be true, being a licensee, Mr. Kyle’s reported actions would constitute a violation of Commission rules and most probably State law. We will investigate this incident in a fair and timely manner.”

Executive Officer Garcia went on to say that he commends World Extreme Cagefighting’s President Scott Adams and its Vice President Reed Harris, the promoters of the event, for reporting the incident.

“We are thankful that they are willing to stand up and work with us to continue developing the sport of MMA. We are also thankful that promoters and tribal governments are demonstrating a growing interest in having our Commission supervise their events. Our goal is to supervise all events that take place in our State. Safety and fairness for the athletes is our primary concern.”

If you have any questions please contact the Commission office at 916-263-2195.
