On Friday, the UFC announced their next major Fan Expo in Houston, Tex. on October 7 & 8. On Saturday, UFC President Dana White hinted that they may have found their main event for the fight card.
Following the historic UFC 129 event in Toronto, White was asked if UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez could make his return against the winner of the upcoming fight between Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos.
From White’s reaction, it’s something they are thinking about doing.
“Probably,” White told MMAWeekly.com about the fight headlining the October card. “Sounds like that would make a lot of sense.”
Velasquez has been on the shelf since last year when he defeated Lesnar to win the UFC heavyweight title, but then had to have shoulder surgery that landed him on the sidelines.
White had already alluded to Velasquez’s possible return earlier in the week, and now with the Houston event locked down for early October, it seems like the perfect time for the champion’s first title defense.
Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos will battle it out at UFC 131 in Vancouver on June 11, and then assuming everyone healthy and ready to go, the promotion could look to target the title fight for October.
