The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Wednesday officially announced a welterweight bout between Josh Burkman and Forrest Petz. The fight is scheduled to take place as part of UFC 77 on Oct. 20 at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
UFC 77 features Anderson Silva in defense of his UFC middleweight championship in a rematch with challenger Rich Franklin. Rising heavyweight talent Brandon Vera is also set to make his return to the Octagon facing former heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia.
Both Burkman and Petz have been sporadic thus far in their UFC careers. Burkman has managed a 4-2 mark in UFC competition, losing a decision to highly ranked welterweight Karo Parisyan in May at UFC 71. Petz is coming off of a decision win over Luigi Fioravanti at UFC Fight Night in June, improving his record to 2-2 in the Octagon.
“I’m just excited to get back in there and see how much I’ve grown as a fighter,” Burkman told UFC.com. “I think I grew a lot from my fight with Karo and I’m just excited to fight again.”
