Now that UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has come out of his recent bout with diverticulitis, the PR machine rolls full steam ahead. The champ will be the new cover boy for the May release of UFC Undisputed 2010. The second release of the title under the promotion’s agreement with video game developer THQ.
Just a month ago, it was uncertain if Lesnar’s health would recover enough for him to even consider fighting again, but a recent appearance by him and UFC president Dana White on ESPN revealed that he will return to defend his belt.
White, at Thursday’s UFC 109 pre-fight press conference, said that Lesnar would likely return in late June or early July to fight on a Las Vegas fight card. He will face the winner of an interim title bout between Frank Mir and Shane Carwin, pending the winner of that bout emerging healthy and ready to go by summer. If Mir or Carwin can’t make the summer date, the winner of a bout between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez at UFC 110 in Australia would get the shot instead.
Several improvements and roster changes are expected for the pending release of UFC Undisputed 2010 with details to be released on Friday night at a media gathering in Las Vegas. Stay tuned to MMAWeekly.com for more details.
