Brian Stann Details Jon Jones’ Downward Spiral

As a former fighter and former WEC champion, FOX analyst Brian Stann is in a unique position to comment on the recent troubles of now-former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Stann trained alongside Jones at Team Jackson-Winkeljohn in Albuquerque, N.M. from the first day that Jones set foot in the gym.

That was back before Jones had earned the light heavyweight strap. Back before Jones rose to the highest pinnacle of the sport. Back before Jones started to spiral out of control.

Brian-Stann-UFC-130-pre-press-478x270Having been there from day one, seeing Jones getting into progressively worse and worse trouble, don’t count Stann among those that were surprised by Jones’ recent involvement in a hit-and-run incident that saw him charged with a felony, stripped of his title, indefinitely suspended from fighting, and cut loose from a valuable endorsement deal with Reebok.

“I’d love to say I was shocked, but I was not. I would say a 4 or a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10, and that had more to do with the details surrounding it.”

Check out what else Stann had to say about the downfall of one of mixed martial arts all-time great fighters…

Stann is a very bright intuitive guy, if he only had the talent JJ does we’d have superman as lightweight champ.

    • Seth

Besides talent, he would need Mike Dolce’s super powers to make lightweight…

I think it would take a case of HIV before Stan could make 155.

Jones’ talent is nothing without the 85″ wingspan and perfect body proportions.

      • Mark McDowall

His talent would be nothing if he had 1 arm…but he doesn’t have 1 arm. And he does have an 85″ wingspan and perfect proportions…so that’s kind of a pointless statement…

I think Jones winning has more to do with most people being either small, and moved to 185 or getting near retirement. He’s a great fighter, but I think a prime Chuck Liddell would have probably beat him.

yes, i really like him as a colour commentator. My favourite by far.

      • Timothy Malone

He’s not bad but personally I think Florian is better.

Cliffs Notes: Even a really nice guy like Stann thinks Jones is a douche.

Thanks….didn’t feel like watching another video.

If he hasn’t learned his lesson by this “4th” time, do you really think he’ll learn his lesson anytime soon? I doubt it. He’s a great fighter, and maybe AJ or Weidman could give him problems, but I guess it’s just not in the cards for Bones these days.

“The SNOWBALL effect of his extracurricular activities.”

Excellent choice of words Stann. Classic!
