UFC officials on Wednesday confirmed an MMAWeekly.com report that the Brendan Schaub vs. Lavar Johnson bout that was scratched from UFC on Fox 5 would instead find its way on the UFC 157 card. They also announced a new bout for TUF Live winner Michael Chiesa.
Johnson suffered a pulled groin muscle just a week before UFC on Fox 5. Since Johnson’s injury was minor and he expected a quick recovery, instead of trying to insert a replacement, UFC officials rescheduled the fight for UFC 157.
Chiesa had been scheduled to face Marcus LeVesseur, also on the UFC on Fox 5 fight card, but fell ill the week of the fight and had to drop out.
He will now join Schaub and Johnson as part of the Feb. 23 fight card in Anaheim, Calif.
Chiesa will now face Anton Kuivanen (17-5), who is coming off of a split decision victory over Mitch Clarke at UFC 149 in Calgary.
Chiesa hasn’t seen the inside of the Octagon since winning at the TUF Live Finale on June 1.
Newly minted UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey puts her belt on the line for the first time when she faces Liz Carmouche in the UFC 157 main event at the Honda Center.
