Markes was reportedly involved in a car accident on Friday morning. He was not seriously injured, but was deemed unable to compete at Saturday’s event in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil.
Despite the cancellation, Markes and Brunson will both be paid their guaranteed show money for the fight, according to UFC president Dana White.
The bout was scheduled to be one of the feature fights on the Facebook streaming portion of UFC on Fuel TV 10. The fight card will now stand at 12 bouts instead of the initial 13.
UFC on Fuel TV 10 features a heavyweight rematch between TUF Brazil 2 coaches Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum, and also serves as the reality series’ finale.
