Undefeated Thomas Almeida (19-0) will try to extend his unbeaten streak to 20 consecutive fights when he takes on Brad Pickett (24-10) at UFC 189 on July 11. UFC officials announced the match-up on Monday.
Almeida made his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 56 in November, defeating Tim Gorman by unanimous decision in a clash that won Fight of the Night honors. The 23-year-old Brazilian collected another bonus in his second outing for his TKO stoppage of Yves Jabouin at UFC 186 on April 25.
Pickett will be returning to the bantamweight division to take on Almeida after a three-fight stint in the flyweight division. He’s a winner of five performance-based bonuses, all while competing at 135 pounds. He hopes to end Almeida’s win streak at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
UFC 189 takes place on July 11 and features two title fights. Featherweight champion Jose Aldo puts his title on the line against Conor McGregor in the main event, while welterweight champion Robbie Lawler faces Rory MacDonald in the co-main event.
