Former WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles has been forced off the upcoming Nov 11 card in Las Vegas after suffering a broken foot in training.
The news was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by Bowles’ manager Andrew Beach on Wednesday. MMAJunkie.com first reported Bowles’ removal from the card.
According to Beach, while in training Bowles was sparring with a teammate and threw a kick, which landed flush with his sparring partner’s elbow, breaking the Georgia based fighter’s right foot.
The injury will not sideline Bowles for any serious amount of time, but will likely push back his return to action until 2011.
Bowles was set to return to the WEC for the first time since losing his 135lb title to Dominick Cruz in March, where he suffered a broken hand along the way that caused a stoppage to the fight. Facing Wagnney Fabiano in November, Bowles had hoped to get back in the title picture, but it looks like that will be delayed for now.
The WEC is currently seeking a replacement for Bowles on the November card, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.
